Preferably one where God Himself pays the electric bills.
theyd brought a new guy in three or four years ago for minister, and hed gone to a subscription concept.
The latest moneymaker for the software industry. Microsoft "Church365".
I wonder if there was anyone pushing changes who was chattering on about doing "church in the cloud".
We are not to forsake assembling with other believers, to be sure; elsewhere, some close and formal association is urged several times; Paul encouraged selfless organized giving; and church leaders should be personally invested in their local fellowship. But I am unaware of any specific New Testament membership specifications tying donating to belonging. And in the absence of any, what justifiable warrant does the church board have for such a requirement?
And on that we agree.
Well if God himself is going to send a check to the electric company then I guess they have no need of tithing.
It is called “money grubbing.” “Come and for your money you will be saved from your sins:-The Good Book says if I remember correctly.
I said anyone could attend. The voting rights and ability to hold committee membership positions, though limited to those who tithe and hold the principles of the faith reduces the risk of many problems.
But compulsory tithing? Where is that commanded in the New Testament as a precondition for church membership?
I’ve always cherished a bit in a book I read on authoritarian churches. Pastor visits couple’s home and eventually gets around to the topic of tithing.
“I’ll need to see your tax returns.”
Wife of the couple: “You show me yours and I’ll show you mine.”
Amen.
I would tell the pastor to stick it where the sun don’t shine and cut back on my contribution. The NERVE! Greed stinks even when it hides behind Jesus. This is the way the Catholic church used to act to it’s members. They would make my mom set an annual amount she’d give and then if problems happened and she could not do it, they would treat her mean. We were poor as dirt and had not wiggle room when I was little. Dad was not an officer in the Navy yet. She had to hide all this from dad who despised the Catholic church. It was a generational thing all the way back to Europe on his side of the family.
I love pastors who serve Christ. I am nobody’s slave.
Well the Catholic Church doesn’t seem to ask an annual amount anymore and thank God for generous givers because most of the members in my parish are pretty cheap.
