I disagree. I do not think he said clearly that everyone there is going to Heaven, though I do think he was speaking to the many there he thinks are. I think he was doing his duty as Pope to strengthen, feed, and console the flock.
So are you saying Francis can read hearts, which you accused me of? Or is he possibly convincing some, who are not in a state of grace, of having a pass, thereby damning them?
What part of ALL WILL BE in Heaven is not clear?
Even if he meant what you seem to think he meant, it's wrong. Strengthening, feeding and consoling would include talk about the hope of Heaven IF one remain FAITHFUL to the CATHOLIC FAITH. He said NO SUCH THING.
“What part of ALL WILL BE in Heaven is not clear?”
He didn’t say “All will be” in Heaven, he said to a General Audience consisting of thousands, “All of us will be up there together, all of us!” Maybe presumptuous but far from a proclamation of universal salvation. Why did he say Mafia members are on the road to Hell if all are saved?
I think he thinks most of the people there will be saved and in a moment of exuberation basically said we’ll all be up there together. I think the real problem on threads like this is that there’s such an effort to try to get him, that his words are given the worst possible interpretation.
So your post 41 says something different than 44. First you said he wasn’t saying that of all the people there and then you said that he was.
For the record, I was not saying he was speaking of universal salvation in that particular homily. My posts have only been reacting to what he clearly stated about those in attendance. What he said was wrong and unCatholic. Period.
He didn’t say “most”; he said “all of us”. Don’t blame the people who quote him verbatim, they are not “interpreting” him; blame the fool who babbles such nonsense.
This is what he said:
It is beautiful to think of this, to think of Heaven. All of us will be up there together, all of us!
How do you "interpret" the above?
Regarding universal salvation:
This pope has never encouraged a non-catholic to convert to the One, True Faith to my knowledge. He hasn’t done it with the atheist newspaper editor, nor with muslims at Lampedusa, nor his rabbi friend in Argentina. He even discouraged his evangelical friend, Tony Palmer, from his thoughts of converting to Catholicism. Unfortunately, Mr. Palmer has since died.
Doesn’t sound like somebody who believes in EENS.
Oh I agree with your conclusion regarding Francis and EENS as a whole. I was focusing just on his recent comments alone.
