Went to Daily Mass in a small chapel in a nearby church today, and, during his homily, the priest held up a big fat book, and said it was the Bible commentary written by St. Jerome, which the priest had used extensively in his seminary training, and still uses and recommends to everyone.    This priest is a pretty funny guy, and as he held up the book next to his face, he said he looked just like the guy whose picture was on the front cover of that book.    (It was that same painting of St. Jerome you included up there at the top of this thread.)

Now, you have to understand that this Associate Pastor at that church is from Nigeria, and he has very dark skin, and absolutely no beard.

He got a big laugh for that line today!     :-)

(I personally think that in that portrait, St. Jerome looks a bit more like one of those "Duck Dynasty" guys you see all over the place these days -- what do you think?)

(By the way, do you think the Catholics who actually wrote all the "books" of the New Testament knew the Bible pretty well?    How about St. Jerome?)

I have to go do something else right now (my Bible study and prayers), so in the unlikely event that this post generates any feedback, I'll let you handle it.     :-)

Goodnight!

Why Don’t More Catholics Read the Bible?

Um, 'cause their church tells them it's mythology?

I know this is touted as a “start”, but reading the Psalms, Proverbs and the first four books of the New Testament gets one nowhere NEAR reading, much less studying, the WHOLE Bible (only six books out of 66). It really is ALL intertwined as the “whole counsel of God”. I’m glad that Catholicism is encouraging Bible study independent of what gets used in Mass.

the reason that there are multiple thousands of protestant denominations and only 1 Catholic church is the protestants have decided that they are individually better able to interpret the Bible that are the fathers of the church. The Catholic Church has been interpreting the Bible that they wrote for 2,000 years...the prottys have given it a try for about 400 years...see the difference???

.

The Catholics should have copyrighted the Bible and kept it from all those heretics interpreting it now every which way. Next time.

Why are Harold Camping and his countless faithful followers and worshippers here so concerned about those straying lost Catholics, their disgustingly archaic Church and their Damnation?
