Hebrew was the 'liturgical' language used in the Temple. The common parlance of the peoples in that region of the world was Aramaic. There are still a few towns where it is still spoken.
Aramaic is a Semitic language, related to Hebrew, Arabic, and similar languages. According to an expert linguist whom I consulted, Hebrew and Aramaic are related much as French and Spanish or Cantonese and Mandarin. During the time of the Assyrian Empire (8th century BC), Aramaic became used throughout the Ancient Near East as the language of diplomacy. In the time of the Persian Empire (6th-4th century BC), Aramaic was the predominant language of the region. Since Judea was part of the Persian Empire, Jews for whom Hebrew was a primary language began to speak Aramaic, especially those of the upper classes. By the time of Jesus, Aramaic was the most common language in Judea, though Hebrew may have been dominant in certain areas, such as Jerusalem or the Qumran community by the Dead Sea. Greek usage was also widespread in those regions during the first century A.D.The widespread use of Aramaic among Jews is illustrated by the fact that portions of the Old Testament are in Aramaic, not Hebrew (Ezra 4:8-6:18; 7:12-26; Daniel 2:4-7:28; Jeremiah 10:11). This means, for example, that one of the most important passages in the Old Testament for our understanding of Jesus appears in Aramaic. Daniels vision of one like a son of man is described in Aramaic (kebar enash; 7:13). Moreover, around the time of Jesus, though probably after his death, the Hebrew scrolls of the Old Testament were translated into Aramaic for use in the synagogues, because so many Jews did not understand Hebrew.)
What Language Did Jesus Speak?
Aramaic Language: The Language of Christ
It is generally agreed that Jesus and his disciples primarily spoke Aramaic, the common language of Palestine in the first century AD, most likely a Galilean dialect distinguishable from that of Jerusalem. Language of Jesus
You’ve been misled by Mystery Babylon.
Hebrew was the language of the Jews, not aramaic, in fact, there were few Jews that understood aramaic. Harrod was the enforcer of the language, and Hebrew was his language, thus all, not just Jews, had to use Hebrew in their business with the local authorities.
Aramaic had been an ancient language of peoples to the north, until the Medo-Persian conquest banished their language.
At the beginning of the Christian era, Aramaic, in various dialects was the dominant spoken language of Syria and Mesopotamia. It developed a number of literary dialects, known as Palestinian Jewish Aramaic, Samaritan Aramaic, Syro-Palestinian Christian Aramaic, Syriac, Babylonian Talmudic Aramaic, and Mandaic Aramaic. In Galilee14 and Samaria15 , Aramaic dialects became the day-to-day means of communication.
Source
I have provided 4 credible sources that support the fact that Jesus, His mother and the Apostles spoke Aramaic. My church traces its roots to Antioch and the first christian communities. It retains, as its liturgical language, the same form of Aramaic spoken by our Lord. IOW, its source is Jesus Christ Himself.
Please post your sources.
"Herod" was himself not Jewish, he was an Edomite. Coins of his era bore the Greek "ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΗΡΩΔΟΥ" ("BasileÅs HÄrÅdou") meaning sovereign Herod.
I have no argument with your statement here.
The language of Edom was Hebrew.
The coins were of Roman manufacture; Harrod was a puppet with no authority over anything but the civil government.
You have provided nothing but “sources” caught as deep in the Mystery of Iniquity as you are yourself. That is the very source of the deception.
The Edomite language did not even use the same alphabet as Hebrew. Now, do you want to convince me that Herod was a devout and practicing Jew too? (Note: Harrod is an English name and a damned fine clothier. Herod was the Roman client.)
"The coins were of Roman manufacture; Harrod was a puppet with no authority over anything but the civil government."
Why Greek and not Latin or Hebrew?
You have provided no sources to back up your theory, because there aren’t any.
The spokenh language of Edom was hebrew.
Esau was a son of Isaac, just as Jacob was, and they spoke the same language exactly.
What scam are you going to try next?
The enscribed copies of the gospel of Matthew in the original language back up the Well established facts that I have presented.
There is no theory, because there is no longer any question. 18 centuries of deception have been burned by the light of day through the brilliant work of Dead Sea scroll scholar Nehemia Gordon, of Hebrew University.
He has written a book, “The Hebrew Yeshua vs. The Greek Jesus” that clears out all of Satan’s deception.
Now THAT is one book I would really like to read.
Can you supply the actual title and under what name the book is published? ... Do Popes publish under the ‘Pope’ designation?
(LOL)
You have mail
Scam? Please do try to maintain the charade of Christian civility and charity.
There were 1300 years between the death of Esau and the birth of Herod during which time the Edomites developed their own written and spoken language and were conquered many times. In those 1300 years the people of Judea did not retain Hebrew as anything other than a ceremonial language. To expect a remote nomadic people to have done so flies in the face of significant archaeological evidence to the contrary.
Peace be with you
Sheesh! You sound amazingly like the now defunct Delphi User Mormonism apologist. I suspect there is no archaeological evidence which would change your closed/made up mind. Have Nice Day
What you propose has no basis in fact.
Hebrew has never been “just a ceremonial language.”
It is the original language spoken in the garden, and retained by Yehova’s chosen people. The name Hebrew came later when the people “crossed over” the Euphrates entering the land of promise, and that is what it means. It is the language of the people that have Yehova’s deed to the land from the Euphrates to the nile.
With the diaspora it became just that. Aramaic was the vernacular of most Jews and by the first century more Jews spoke Greek than Hebrew and Aramaic combined.
Peace to you.
