When I came in this morning, she acted like nothing ever happened!

Now comes the scary part of getting somebody to find out what happened and why.

Is it just a concussion or does she have some kind of weird seizure disorder?

I want to know but it terrifies me, too, if that makes any sense.

(God forbid it be something really awful inside going on her little head)

For the moment, I am totally exhausted but very happy to see her being much more like herself!

The more the day goes on, the more I hope to actually sleep for more a few minutes at a time.

I had a short catnap late last night but woke up to check on her and she was hungry but didn’t want her food so I had to stand in the kitchen and thaw out hamburger for her.

(I think I cooked it in my sleep, actually)

:-O

Been fussing over her all day and so far, so good.

I think the Neurotin does not agree with her so she won’t be getting that again.

It made her dizzy and nauseous and she sure doesn’t need that.

Thanks to everybody who prayed for her...with her ‘sudden’ turnaround last night, I can only see a miracle.

Please keep us in your thoughts as we start the long search for the what and why...and hopefully, the cure.

I cannot thank you all enough..I just don’t have “big” enough words for what I feel.

I’m SO very happy to read this, Sal...so happy.

Thank you Lord, for what you did for our friend and her puppy. Please put Your hand on Halla and heal her...please lead Sal to the right vet, to the right cure. In Your Name, Amen!

Uh. Sal. Get it in writing that the bathroom's clean, M'K?

About that bathroom..... the path is kept mowed every week, and lime is applied bi-weekly.

Praise God for answering our prayers. So glad Halla is doing well so far, and that it never repeats itself.

I love miracles. Either that or doggies have 9 lives like their feline friends do.

Yay for Halla!!!!

Great to hear, pets will surprise you at their ability to recover, plus a little prayer every now and then doesn't hurt.

Just a note: Remember there are lots of common house and garden plants that are toxic to pets that will have neurological and other effects.
Puppies have a bad habit of munching on anything.

Thanks be to God!!! What GREAT NEWS upon which to end a stormy day!!! Halla is a little fighter having suffered so much in her short life, but soldiering on just like her Mama.

Sal, please, if you or Daffy could ping me to any news about Halla’s condition in the coming weeks and months and to whatever you discover happened. Until then, I will follow this thread. I am hoping the cause is something environmental, which can be isolated and eliminated.

Prayers ongoing, as I join mine to those of your good FRiends in this wonderful community. Hope your entire household gets caught-up on its sleep tonight.

Kisses for Halla’s warm little punkin’ head. :-**** ...and (((HUGS))) for you!

When she goes outside [in fact, all the dogs] it looks like a clip from Cool Hand Luke and I’m the nasty sheriff with the mirror sunglasses.

I watch everybody, see everything and shriek like a maniac if it looks like they’re sniffing something too much.

I search my yard frequently for any funny new plants that may have popped up and have no shrubs or trees that aren’t technically edible, if you’re into chewing on trees, that is.

Every fall is The War Of The Fungi in which I go out before they do, shovel in hand, and dig up any mushroom which has popped up the night before.

[seriously...told y’all I was obsessive]

:)

My 17.5 year old Papillon began this past Thursday as usual. Got up, went outside, came back in and crawled into her bed, where she has been sleeping a good part of the days for some time now. She hadn’t been eating much for the past few days, but she had gone through such periods in the past. She’s had CHF for years - she had been stable for a long, long time.

Thursday evening we had been out and when we got back, she was sleeping so I didn’t bother her. She woke up a half hour or so later, and began stumbling and falling all over. I scooped her up and heard the telltale gurgle in her chest. Her breathing was labored and her heart was racing. I tried offering her a bit of roast chicken, her favorite. She put it in her mouth, but dropped it almost immediately.

We both stayed up with her that night. She hated the vet and she cheated him out of one last visit. She passed away on my lap, on the way to the vet. Despite my other dogs, my house has been empty ever since. I finally dreamed about her last night.

I will relay any new findings.

So far, she has an appointment with her physical therapist pending to see if she can feel any tight/twisted spots in her neck and spine and she’ll get cold laser on her punkin’ head since it helped immensely the first time.

Next week, we start the long trips to the eye or neuro docs.

Trying to budget so I wonder if the neuro docs know enough to check her eyes or whether it *has* to be both.

The eyes need dealing with ASAP.

An eye doc might be able to tell what’s happened in her head to cause other things.

Not sure if neuro docs can reverse engineer, so to speak.

I’ve already been warned that neuro docs will bleed us dry doing zillions of inconclusive tests hoping to find the needle in the haystack.

That makes me nervous.

Lots of my Dobe buddies have written, detailing their adventures which cost many thousands of dollars, only to find “nothing”.

[naturally this little brat would have the worst, most expensive issues possible]

Oh, lord...that could’ve been the story of my Minny, almost verbatim.

Now I wish I hadn’t tried to get to the vet because she died on the passenger seat of our cab-and-a-half while I sat behind, cradling her as best I could.

It was hopeless anyway and I’ll always wish I’d just stayed home with her on the sofa.

I can’t bear to drive past that spot on I81 where she left me, even 12 years later.

I’m SO sorry for your loss.

I would be overjoyed if my dogs lived to be that old but I know in my heart, it ~still~ wouldn’t be “long enough”.

It’s never enough.

Thank you!

The worst seems to be over for now, and hopefully, forever.

It remains to find out what/why and if it can be ‘fixed’.

My heart won’t take many more days like yesterday.

Praise God for her miraculous turnaround, is all I can say.

Ooooh!

A fancy one-seater!

Mine was across the lane through rough gravel and I doubt it ever got limed in its life.

;D

Might be prudent to take it one step at a time, and first see what the eye doc’s say. You could be right in that the eye doc might be able to deduce something pivotal from the examination and could steer you in the right direction. Odin could help.

Do you have to go very far afield to visit these doctors?

Oh, Darnright... I’m so sorry. Comfort yourself with the knowledge that your old love enjoyed a good, long life and crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge from quite possibly, the one place on earth she most loved to be. I believe, one joyful day, you’ll be with her again. God bless.

Yup, pretty far.

About an hour and a half ride, one way, on mostly back roads.

It doesn’t help that my vet mentioned that the specialist is one of the most expensive around.
[oh, yay]

The other option is in downtown Gaithersburg MD, which means beltways, 8 lane traffic and all the stress/danger that entails.

I worry to death about the city drivers crashing into us with my babies in the car.
