Now Paul is OK to quote from again?
Scripture talks about several different baptisms.
The baptism of John, the baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, and baptism into death.
We are baptized in water, with the Holy Spirit and fire, in the name of the Lord Jesus, into Christ Jesus, into Moses, and into one body.
Now, which baptism was it we were talking about again?
when one understands baptism placing a person “in Christ”, this post becomes shocking for not understanding Christianity.
Christians are all ONE in Christ, there is not any Jew or Gentile.
Christians are all baptized into the One Body, the Body of Christ.
Paul never used the term “spirit baptism”, does he?
Does water baptism save or not?
If it does, it does, faith or works notwithstanding.
If something can negate it, then it doesn’t save.
So, if only the eunuch had said, "There is some water, what prevents me from being water baptized", that would make it okay? A bit redundant don't you think? "Oh, there's some Snickers bars, what prevents me from eating one"? Oops, shouldn't it say "Oh, there's some Snickers bars, what prevents me from eating a Snickers bar?"
LOL! if this is true, when it was first introduced in the “latter part of the second century” where was the controversy from Bible believing Christians??
the answer? there was none, because all the Church practiced it and all acknowledged its Apostolic source.
what proof does this gentleman have for his assertion?
i have the Church Fathers and the Apostolic tradition that say otherwise.
What prevents me from being baptized?"
37 And Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."
38 And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch; and he baptized him.
Last try ...
LOOK ... THERES WATER ... (SINCE THERE IS WATER) IS THERE ANYTHING THAT PREVENTS ME FROM BEING BAPTIZED NOW? ... IF YOU BELIEVE ... YOU MAY ... I BELIEVE ... they went into the water ... and he baptized him.
Now only someone who was already predisposed to reject water baptism could possibly see something other than what is clearly taught here ... water baptism.
I have suffered enough through your symantic games; but have only tolerated them due to the number of people that follow these threads who read along.
I will leave it to all the readers to decide who is interpreting the text correctly ...
I bid you good evening ...
just what i thought, there is none.
what’s lame is adding words to the Bible that don’t exist.
better tell that to Peter in Acts 2:38 and Paul in Acts 22:16.
the Holy Spirit baptizes us thru the Church as Jesus commanded in Matthew 28.
where’s the truth in that?
Jesus said He would build His Church and the gates of hell would not prevail against it.
and what happened?
2,000 years later, the words of Jesus are absolutely true, the Universal Church is still here!
62 Every man who is ignorant of the Gospel of Christ and of his Church, but seeks the truth and does the will of God in accordance with his understanding of it, can be saved. It may be supposed that such persons would have desired Baptism explicitly if they had known its necessity.
Strange! God says he will be found by all who diligently seek him. He is a "rewarder of them" who do so. It is God's will that ALL men come to the knowledge of the truth, so according to the CCC, God let's some "slide" on this? What they are really saying here is if somebody is a "good" person but doesn't seek the truth of Jesus Christ, God will let them be saved? Sounds like missionaries should stop trying to preach the gospel to every creature and just let them be the best they can be on their own without having to accept OR reject Christ. Almost like God doesn't care if they hear the gospel or not.
If you’re not going to post the verses along with the references, you forfeit any credibility you may yet have, little as it is.
Jesus NEVER taught that baptism was to be through the church.
what all Christians through the ages have held as truth BECAUSE it is backed up by the authority of Holy Scripture. I’m afraid YOU must deal with that.
LOL! you are making my point!! what i am teaching everyone is what all Christians have believed for 2,000 years.
this nonsense about “spirit baptism” and “water baptism” and “believers baptism” and no infant baptism are ALL 16TH CENTURY INVENTIONS, UNHEARD OF TO THE CHRISTIANS UNTIL THEN.
Christians, thru the ages, have always believed baptism is for the remission of sins and receiving the Holy Spirit.
that is my point, what i am fighting against on this thread is not the historical, orthodox, biblical Faith.
anyone who believes the Bible, believes in baptismal regeneration, not “sinners prayers”.
uh oh, no Trinity?
if one doesn’t know the One TRUE God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, baptism is the least of the problems.
The One Baptism commanded by Jesus, and taught by Paul that places one “ in Christ”, forgives sins and in which the gift of the Holy Spirit is conferred.
again, why do you persist in the unbiblical term “water baptism”.
i don’t know what that is, since the Bible doesn’t know what it is.
let’s talk about what the Bible talks about, namely “baptism”
heretics in the 16th century introduced nonbiblical language such as “water baptism” and “spirit baptism”
Peter spoke of “baptism”
Paul spoke of “baptism”
Jesus spoke of “baptism”
Christians have believed ONE BAPTISM for 2,000 years.
heretics, not withstanding.
the One True God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
it is in the name to be used in baptism.
