Ever since Apostle Paul following late Acts and His later epistles God gives Paul the words to write and demonstrate that water baptism is not required for salvation for us Gentiles. Peter's commission was to the Jews - read Galatians chapter 2 CAREFULLY. Paul's commission was to the Gentiles. - read Galatians chapter 2 CAREFULLY. Paul says that there is one baptism - that that is Spirit baptism - Romans 6.

Galatians 2:7: But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;

Galatians 2:8: (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)

Galatians 2:9: And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

1. when did infant baptism start?

From Zucks review of Ferguson's massive work ...

Infant baptism was not practiced "before the latter part of the second century" (p. 856). But, he suggests, it may have arisen as an "emergency baptism of sick children expected to die soon so that they would be assured of entrance into the kingdom of heaven. ... It became the usual practice in the fifth and sixth centuries" (p. 857). "Original sin became the reason for infant baptism in the western church"

>>what version does it say “ what prevents me from being water baptized?”<<

That is really lame.

LOL! they are all one baptism!

it is hard to discuss Catholic doctrine with people who have no clue what they are talking about and what they think they know, they got from a radio preacher or comic book.

Paul tells us in Ephesians there is ONE BAPTISM.

Scriptural proof is the Body of Christ and Christ as the HEAD of the Church, which is His Body - that is the pillar of truth.

Colossians 1:18: And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

>>Sheesh, talk about talking out of both sides of your mouth. Baptism does and doesn’t save us all at the same time.<<

We seem to run into that situation a lot don’t we?

For the discussion:

I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and [with] fire: - Matt 3:11

I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost - Mark 1:8

John answered, saying unto [them] all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire: - Luke 3:16

And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. - John 1:33

And again,

Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. - Acts 11:16

And again,

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. - John 3:5-6

God's Name is I AM.

Paul tells us in Ephesians there is ONE BAPTISM - that THAT BAPTISM is God the Holy Spirit who baptizes everyone at the exact moment of faith and salvation. THAT is Biblical, for your information.

They can't get their story straight. Where's the truth in that?

how many times must i say this?

the Scriptures ( come on folks, you guys believe “sola scriptura”, not me! ) speak of “baptism”

the Scriptures know nothing of “water baptism” , nor “spirit baptism”
the Scriptures teach “baptism”

heretics arose in the 16th century and started teaching something called “spirit baptism” and then a water ritual called “water baptism”, but this is not biblical, nor is it orthodox Christianity. Christianity only know “one baptism”, not two.

this verse describes “baptism”.

it does not mention “spirit baptism”, nor “water baptism”, just plain old “baptism”

we are baptized into Christ by the Holy Spirit thru the Church. in baptism, we recieve remission of our sins and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. this is the one baptism Paul mentions in Ephesians.

I'm not going to repeat ALL the verses others have already posted here. What, you skipped them? Also, you brought up this very same argument on another thread and you were greeted with ALL the very verses you "say" you want now. Here's a hint. READ THEM.

I'm starting to think you really don't want to hear the answers to your questions because your mind is already made up. You must feel you are all alone on these threads defending the Roman Catholic Church's dogma against all us "heretics", right? Here's the thing...we believe the Bible and what Jesus said, what the authors wrote under inspiration of the Holy Spirit and what all Christians through the ages have held as truth BECAUSE it is backed up by the authority of Holy Scripture. I'm afraid YOU must deal with that.
