The bread and wine does not change into the body and blood of Christ. They believe it is spiritually present.
Thank you, but as I try to see how that makes any real difference, I don’t, although I know from my inlaws that it was a huge hot topic back in the late 60s. At the time of her death, my LCMS mother in law said there was no difference at all.
Oh it makes a huge difference. Many of the Lutherans try to dance somewhere between the Catholics and the Protestants on this issue. Catholics believe that the bread and wine literally and physically change into the physical body of Christ never to change back. Since the Communion Bread is permanently changed, if they have any left after Mass, they must keep it in a special place and they respect it as the Body and Blood of Jesus because that's exactly what it IS!
Unless you find some Lutheran who really doesnt understand what they believe you wont find one who will say that. Many Lutherans, and if I remember the official Lutheran Missouri Synod position, is that the body is present but doesnt change the physical bread and wine and that only during the official remembrance only. The bread and wine retain their original properties and physical realities.
I think it’s obvious that my LCMS mother in law changed her position on the Eucharist.
Not directly, no. How stupid do I have to be to not see your ugly intent? Thanks for nothing; are you an anti-Catholic bigot? Can you just recognize that there are people who believe differently than you?
Would YOU lighten up?
There was no "ugly intent", JA, and I do not think you are stupid. Actually, I have no problem at all with people who think differently than I do. In fact, I believe that many Catholics really are saved, born again Christians. Unfortunately, there are few Catholics on this forum who afford the same consideration to non-Catholics.
I don’t believe you.
Suit yourself.
I doubt it will be very long before you show my doubts about your character to be correct.
INDEED.
Personally . . . I’m skeptical that molly coddling visceral bitterness and brazenly flaunted, vivid hatred is the most loving thing to do.
I don't doubt that you haven't already made up your mind about what you think you know concerning my "character". If you haven't figured it out by now, you won't ever. I'm also not going to change what, when or how I express my faith so as to bow to you or anyone else, I answer to the Lord Jesus Christ. It's not about you, remember?
I can’t believe I fell for that sweet FReepmail you sent. I’ll never make that mistake again.
However, y'all really believe that UNBiblical hogwash!
Pretty slick bureaucratic good ole boys club power mongering, however, to come along 300-400 years later and co-opt all that went before.
What a riot!
ABSOLUTELY INDEED.
Isn’t Jesus God? He sais that blasphemy against Him would be forgiven, but not blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Get a clue.
Good morning, Judith Anne. Yes I KNOW that Jesus is God. And God the Father is God. And the Holy Spirit is God. We have already been through this. So, I must ask, without having further information from you, what is your point? By your last sentence, you seem so snippy for some reason. Lemons are not a fruit of the Spirit.
