I’m finding that the more I read the bible, the more offensive Mormonism is to me.
The word “atonement” is really getting on my nerves too. It starts to have as little meaning as “balloon payment”, and less feeling than writing a check for student loans.
However, I do find annoying how the LDS constantly (to me) refere to Jesus as “Our savior”. They never seem to want to say “Jesus”. It’s like the church I grew up in that alwasy refered to Jesus as “Christ”. That’s his title (it means redeemer)not His name.
His NAME is JESUS! No word on this Earth has more power that the name JESUS.
But I guess if what you mean by “atonment” is just to be the first one to go through a door, what’s the big deal. It was just luck of the draw and accident of birth order that it was Jesus, and everybody gets there now anyway, so whoopee. It might just as well have been your local Bishop.

I listen to Roy and agree with him in parts and disagree with him in parts.
He does teach that going to church is unnecessary, and says Jesus didn’t intend for people to go to church, but obviously He did, He instructed St. Paul to set up churches to reach the gentiles and St. Paul talks in his books about the structure and practice of the church, and the qualifications to be a deacon, etc.
The books of the Bible that Paul wrote were, in fact, letters to the various churches Paul had set up, and Paul references the churches that Peter set up, so obviously Peter was doing Jesus’ will in setting up churches, as well...
As far as sin goes, Roy says Christians don’t sin, I don’t think that is Biblical. “I would have you not sin, but nevertheless, if we DO sin, we have an advocate in Christ Jesus.” Roy says he is not perfect, but is becoming perfect. I don’t have a problem with that, Jesus said “Be ye therefore perfect, as your Father in Heaven is perfect,” there’s no conflict in that.
As far as the meditation goes, it’s not hypnotic, it’s anti-hypnotic, if you do it the right way. It just lets you become aware of how lost in your thoughts and emotions you are. To me, that is a good thing.
I don’t think the meditation saves your soul, that is obviously the work of the shed blood and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We’re saved through belief in Him, because our righteousness is as dirty rags, as God said.
Neither does works save us, “lest man may boast.” No matter how perfect Roy or any other man on Earth becomes, that won’t bring him salvation...it’s the shed blood of the Lamb of God, just like it was the shed blood of a lamb over the doorway that spared the Hebrews from the angel of death in the OT.
I heard Roy say that the moment he falls to temptation and gets angry,and sins, then he’s lost, he won’t go to Heaven. That, to me, is the wrong belief. It’s not the perfect control of sin and reaction that saves us, it’s Jesus. Paul said “I preach Jesus, and Him crucified,” not “I preach self-control, and not falling to temptation.”
Obviously we are required to not fall to temptation, and Paul talks in great detail about putting off the old man, the lower nature, and casting off all that is unnecessary, striving for the path of salvation, but it isn’t, in my opinion, our perfect adherence to that that saves us or condemns us, but it always comes down to recognizing we’ve sinned, and throwing ourselves on the mercy of Jesus to ask forgiveness.

Q1: Did you happen to take the plank out of your own eye before you made this statement? Or did you just, plank-eyed, proceed with invasive surgery upon Fishtank's eyes?
Comment: Now, I confess, I made an assumption there that may or may not be true: That your eyes were full of planks/beams. But I had a point to make: YOU didn't have anymore info about the alleged "planks" in Fishtank's eyes than I did about your eyes. Yet that didn't stop you from making that assumption, did it?
Do you know Fishtank? If not, why did you assume you did? (That you knew the conditions of his eyes)
Let's review Luke 6: 41 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 42 How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."
Q2: Now, what other assumptions are usually made by those who like to use the verse you used like a club?
A:
* That plank-free spiritual eyes don't exist (except their own eyes, of course)
* That plank surgery wasn't already done in the past
* That nobody's qualified (except them, of course) to ever actually get to the stage of sawdust removal.
* That a given cultist who might be headed to hell only needs a minor sawdust procedure...as opposed to something else more urgent & critical given the significant spiritual healing need @ stake for those trusting in certain church membership (D&C 1:30), temple rituals & "you-can-do-ism" to live forever with God the Father.
It's time for you to fess up that your assumption-laden accusations don't match the context from you lifted it.
