That is a useless rhetorical "what if" game that begs a suspension of disbelief to play. One would have to accept, even for the sake of argument, that God did not already know what was in Mary's heart or what her answer would be.

Oh, I believe fully that God knew the answer. In fact I have asked several "educated" Catholics to explain why the angel from God said "...you will conceive" if they also believed Mary had the free will to reject it.

"Of course you rejected it."

This isn't the first time you have made a false accusation about me and were unable to substantiate it. The earlier one had something to do with "crowing" about degrees. The RF rules prohibit me from calling you a liar, but I can categorically state that liars lie.

'll pin my down RIGHT NOW!

To really pin it down, you'd have to go further into whose version or interpretation of God's word you follow or believe is correct.

You know, if Christianity consisted of Catholics, Orthodox and Lutherans and nothing else, I would be prepared to believe that sola scriptura was somehow legitimate. However, that is clearly not the case.

Wow a refutation of the Immaculate Conception that denies it based on the premise that God was somehow incapable of it.

I remember the day I actually understood the Immaculate Conception - I was walking out of the subway and literally stopped in my tracks when I realized that for Mary to have the exact same Free Will that Eve did when choosing to obey or disobey God, she would have to be in the same spiritual state, i.e., free from the taint of Original Sin.

They don’t get the essential problem involved with talking about what cannot be talked about.

IIRC, from my study of the names of RC churches in Los Angeles County . . . 70% of them were of Mary/St Joseph. The largest percentage of those by far were some variation on Mary name or titles.

Still they want to pretend and have the gullible believe that they put Christ first.

From my survey (which I just made up out of my own head) Most non-catholics in LA county spend between 42 and 60 hours a week sleeping and between 2 and 14 hours a week in church.

And yet they want gullible old me to think Jesus is the msot important thing in their lives.

Most non-Catholics in the FR Religion forum (other made up data) spend most of their time talking about how awful Catholic teaching is and hardly mention Jesus at all, and yet they want me to think Jesus .....

And close to your argument, Most Sola Scriptura folks on the Fr Religion Forum rarely mention Jesus but mention the Bible in almost every post. Clearly they are only deceiving us when they say that Jesus is more important to them than Scripture. How gullible do they think I am!

To take it a step further, for Mary to be “blessed among women,” she must be superior IN ALL WAYS to Eve.

It’s all very clearly spelled out in Genesis 3:15 and the first chapter of the Gospel of Luke.

If he is not going to listen to God he sure as heck isn't going to listen to you.

There are THOUSANDS of Protestant theologies and they ALL claim to be faithful to Scripture.

There are? Didn't know that but then, again, Catholics claimed to be faithful to Scripture, also. So there you go!

Which one, if any, is right

There is ONE Bible which contains ALL TRUTH and ONE TEACHER, the Holy Spirit.

God made it simple, man makes it complicated. THANK YOU, JESUS!

My apologies, no offense intended. I was speaking logically. If one claims their theology is Scripture, one would have to say which interpretation of scripture in order to properly identify the corresponding theology.

And what's wrong with that? That is very appropriate, in view of the fact that the original name of the city of Los Angeles was El Pueblo de la Reina de Los Angeles (The Village of the Queen of the Angels). I'm very happy to live here, and even happier when I can attend Mass at a parish church named in her honor.

By the way, God is not offended by the legitimate honor and reverence we give to His Mother. He is not jealous of the affection and love we give her. God has "thicker skin" than that!

I could give a flip who he listens to or not. Some make themselves so important and to me, they are a NOBODY!!

Compared to JESUS they are a “0”.

Why not just a simple answer, “yes” or “no”.

Are you a Unitarian?

Exodus 20:5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,

If one adds anything to the finished work of Christ on the cross, it tells two things. First is that Jesus and what He did wasn't good enough on its own to save mankind, and the other is that what one is really trusting in for one's salvation is the thing that one added to Jesus.

And what THAT statement shows is a failure to deal with Colossians 1:24 and its implications AND a misunderstanding of what Paul means when he talks about being "in Christ."

He says, (Gal 2:20) "nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me:"

Real people in real life cannot go around all the time, "now I'm going to go read my office and pray the rosary, yet not I, but Christ lives in me."

You all think when we talk about "another Christ" that we're saying something unscriptural, and when we talk about good works, we're talking about something we did, or Mary did, or Dominic did.

So, who did the good works that Paul did? Answer: "nevertheless I .. yet not I but Christ."

We say it and say it. But you all go and find every place that we say it and discount it, or say we don't mean it, or say that that is not what Mrs Irene Concetta McGilliguddy down the street says and she's been poisoning the neighbors cats and going to Mass every morning at 3;30 AM everyday since her poor, dear husband (heaving a sigh of relief) passed from this life.

Sister Mary Sadistica didn't say that to the first graders, and spent most of her time trying to persuade the 13 year old girls not to wear patent leather shoes and the 13 year old boys that even to THINK about bare, nekkid ladies was going to to send them to hell.

You know what's truly stupid? Going to Sister Mary Sadistica or Mrs. McGilliguddy for theological depth. THAT's what's stupid.

YOU'RE the ones who rely on men. Me, if a priest says it, I 'trust but verify.' If I say it, I trust but verify.

But YOU guys ..., "Father Jack Daniels Drinklotski said such and such, so that's how I know what Catholics teach."

"Compared to JESUS they are a “0”."

So where in the Protestant Bible does it state that it is OK to lie, cheat, steal, claw, scratch, fight, accuse, and abuse your fellow man to get into heaven? I see a lot of evidence on these threads to indicate something that is clearly not in mine.Is it because you believe that there are only so many seats on the bus for the elect? Does your Bible contain the Synoptic Gospels? Does you denomination ever discuss the obligations of Beatitude?
