If it were a strictly religious topic, I’d agree.
This incident happened at the UofI and it’s primarily a Constitutional issue as I see it.
The guy was discriminated against and lost his job because he was practicing his religion.
Then, probably, starting a new OPEN thread on the same topic would have been quite fitting.
I saw you on that thread, and wondered why you were there after all the negative things you've posted to Catholics, and about the Catholic Church.
You have had unpleasant encounters with a number of Catholics on FR. Not only me, but others, on open threads. Why could we want to interact with you on OUR CATHOLIC CAUCUS THREADS?
The Religion Moderator has a thankless job, and deserves the support of all those who spend time on the RF. If you don't like the way the RF is run, you can always start your own forum.
RM -- this thread may be making it too personal, and you may want to delete it. But metmom has made a number of posts stating she does not understand why she was booted, and thinks she should be allowed. This is my reply, since she asked.
Thank you. Maybe this (or something similar) could be posted to the Caucus Rules, so that all who Caucus could link to it ...
yeah it was really god like and very informative. Maybe not in the manner intended but I did take away the message about closed societies that I had previously just had not recognized.
Duh — “This POST may be making it too personal”...etc
That's good to know, I won't lie and say I haven't been tempted to post on a Caucus thread using the fact that I was baptised a member of that religion as an argument of "legitimacy" shall we say? ;^)
Thanks for all you do, and as another poster mentioned, this would be good information to have on your page.
Just sayin'.
Here I was, reading the news one day and find this article about this guy and what happened.
So I do a google search of the title with the words *free republic* added, because I found that to be the more effective way of finding threads on FR than using FR's search engine(sad to say). But it works very effectively, so I go with it.
Anyway, here I find this article about some guy whose Constitutional right to freely exercise his religion being violated and see this topic as something worthy of News/Activism. It's not my understanding that UofI is a Catholic university. The only connection is that the man involved happened, this time, to be Catholic. And here it is, posted as a caucus thread.
Now, I have this choice....I can post this thread in News/Activism, risk upsetting the posting police, who will go whining to the mods about a dupe and risk having the thread pulled.
Or I can go on a caucus thread and ping the poster of the thread and find out if she objects to having it reposted under a different designation so's others who are not Catholic, can discuss the topic as well, without having someone complain to the mods about the dupe.
Talk about being between a rock and a hard place. Either way, I lose. But I figure courtesy should win out and I opt for taking the risk of going to the original poster of the first thread on the topic.
Big mistake, as I learn.
From people who are supposed to be concerned about reaching the lost, rather ironic.
Someone who is a sincere seeker wouldn’t stand a chance.
Good points and I agree with almost all of them. And I’m envious not one bit for the job of the RM.
But the salient point I’m trying to make has less to do with the performance of the RM than it does with being consistent with our principles. We all here are outspoken about the violations from the Left on the rule of law. Our words become meaningless if while decrying the violations of someone else we at the same time engage in the same behavior.
How can we win this war if we can’t even follow our own principles?
Many people seem to be missing the point.
That was my instant response. I mean, if God is the Father then no matter the time or place he would see his children, the wayward, the lost and the prodigals, Anytime.
Not surprising. These things require a lot of pounding and time. And above all that it takes the grace of God.
Are you saying that the RM is Irish with a fondness for Hunan cuisine? :)
You could have FReepmailed the Religion Mod, or the original poster.
Yup. Click here.
It had to do with attempting to label us as Romans, if I remember correctly.
Nope. Know your anti-Catholic slurs. This one is "Romanists.
Obviously, this topic was just another attempt to game the caucus system so as to deny Catholics any refuge from the mud-slinging - which is what the open threads invariably degenerate into - by allowing anti-former-Catholics to trash the closed threads up as well.
A search of the poster-in-question's history reveals a certain ideé fixe, which I'm sure you're shocked - shocked! - to learn.
LOL, yeah, right.
Glad to see you recognize it as well. Poor RonDog didn’t stand a chance.

OR, one can go on living life with the understanding that not all freepers are waiting with bated breath for pearls to drop from particular keyboards.
Let's keep things in perspective, people. There is REAL LIFE beyond the religion forum. We're all small fish in a very big cyber pond. (Even though some have delusions of being at the top of the food chain.) While we're all posting madly away, sure that millions MUST be reading our posted wisdom... if we look up... REAL LIFE is JUST BEYOND the computer screen.
