redgolum,
my prayers are for those your father in law may leave behind in grief.
Prayers for his daughter for so many reasons.
Prayers for your baby who may not get a chance to really know grandpa.
Prayers that he knows in his heart of what Jesus did for us all.
GOD bless.
What a beautiful way to request prayer. We will certainly pray for your father in law and for his beloved daughter who will miss him terrible. I know...been there. You call the Last rites just that if you want. That’s what they are and what they always will be. Changing names doesn’t change anything. They are the Last Rites and glad they were administered to your father in law. You are blessed because it sounds like you have a warm, wonderful relationship with your bride’s dad. That’s fantastic. Not everyone has. Just write down all the things you guys can remember and then when your little 16 month old is mature enough to understand...you can read them together for her. She will treasure them as she becomes a young woman and can later read about her grandfather on her own and be thankful she had such loving parents. God bless all and prayers for Jim.
Prayers up, Redgolum.
Prayers for your father in law are on the way.
That was beautiful.
Believers realize that the body will someday be resurrected. In the New Testament, it is quite interesting to find that the early Christians adopted a very wonderful word for the burying places of their loved ones. It is the Greek word koimeterion which means a rest house for strangers or a sleeping place. It is the same word from which we get our English word cemetery. The same word was used in that day for an inn or what we would call a hotel or motel, places where you spend the night to sleep, expecting to get up the next day and continue your journey. This is a picture of the place where you bury your saved loved ones.
The Scriptures teach in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 that the body of a believer is put into a sleeping place until the resurrection because the Lord is coming and the body is going to be raised up. Note that it is the body, not the soul that is in the grave. The soul is eternal. It never sleeps or dies but goes directly to heaven when released from the body. From the teachings of Dr. J. Vernon McGee of Thru the Bible Radio.
Should Jim not yet have that personal relationship with Christ, it is my prayer that someone will come alongside to speak of God's love and forgiveness through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. The simplest prayer brings forth eternal life:
Dear God, I am a sinner and need forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ shed His precious blood and died for my sin. I am willing to turn from sin. I now invite Christ to come into my heart and life as my personal Savior. Thank you, Jesus, for loving me ... thank you, Jesus, for saving me. Amen ...
Prayers.
Prayers up

In Paradisum deducant eum Angeli;
In suo adventu suscipiant eum Martyres,
Et perducant eum in civitatem sanctam Jerusalem
Angelorum eum suscipiat,
Et cum Lazaro quondam paupere,
Aeternam habeat requiem.
Prayers for peace, comfort and blessings for everyone in the family, in Christ’s Most Holy Name, amen.

Prayers on the way!
Praying...
It sounds like you are all facing this trial in the best possible way. I’m so glad your father-in-law has prepared himself spiritually. This will comfort you all very much in the days ahead.
Catholics used to pray for a “happy death” which meant that one was spiritually reconciled with God, had been able to enjoy a loving and peaceful relationship with all family and friends, and did not suffer much in the end.
Lord, please give redgolum’s father-in-law the grace of a happy death. May he feel Your love, peace, and strength every step of this journey. May his family, especially his dear daughter, receive a sign of Your loving concern for him and may the entire family feel your peace in the difficult days ahead. May the angels, saints, and family loved ones meet him and accompany his soul to You. I ask all this in Jesus’ name. Amen
I’ll pray...
