Explain how condoms kill? Prevention of conception is about the same as avoiding a pothole to avoid a flat.

“So, in other words, brain chemistry is destiny and exercising self-control is a pointless pursuit?”

Never said that.

“The fact is that living in society without going to prison requires a very high degree of constant self-control.”

For some more than others.

“Our current cultural environment teaches us that abandoning self-control in sexual situations is perfectly fine, even laudable - but that abandoning self-control with regard to parking is deeply wrong and punishable by fines and even imprisonment.”

You must be educated to be moral?

Brain chemistry can make you strip the skin from your body or drive you to paranoid delusions. There are varying degrees of “normal” and what is easy for one man may be difficult for others. It’s easy to say don’t sin if you shield yourself from society or are an emotional bulwark. Walk a mile in a man’s shoes and sometimes your feet will bleed.

Your mental ability to resist temptation may be weaker than the other mans but he still prevails. Does he not deserve praise or are you more of a sinner due to lack of self discipline under his set of conditions? Until you’ve tested yourself you don’t truly know the degree to which your sin is rooted.

But what does that have to do with barrier contraception?

Nothing. I was replying to your assertion that Brother Kenobi is better served in understanding life by experiencing life. I was simply pointing out that that isn't true in all situations.

You cannot understand the life of a dog until you’ve lived as one.

How is my life affected by contraception? I’d love to be able to find a faithful Catholic to marry.

Then find one already, I hadn't heard of a shortage. No faithful single Catholics at church? FR? Get it done!

If you use contraception you aren’t going to have kids, and that affects who I employ, who employs me, my classmates, friends, wife, everything.

I thought you had no wife. By foregoing contraception any girl they had would be much too young for you to marry anyway.

You cannot deny a man’s understanding and experience simply by your own perception.

For example, I have heard criticisms of RC Priests as marriage counselors because they haven’t been married. However, those who truly understand Covenant history can see that they are perfect for the role.

If you received a stock tip from a hedge fund manager and the guy that picks up your garbage tells you he’s full of it do you listen? Do you trust a heart surgeon who’s board certified but teaches at a university to perform your operations?

There are varying levels of “experience” and credibility that must be assessed when taking advice. I’m sure Priests give great advice based on years of observation (more criteria). Most people would probably be better served by a secular humanist psychologist with 20yrs of marriage under the belt.

Really? How's that working out for society so far?

The problem is you don't understand the priesthood. These are men set aside for service to Our Lord through His Bride, the Church. They are living the covenantal bond through their lifelong ordination whereby they act Sacramentally in the Person of Christ for the life of the Church. Their everyday life is rooted in the marital act of Christ and His Church through the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. There is no one better to help husband and wife understand their covenantal relationship than one who lives it every day. There is no one worse than one who views marriage as a societal contract or convenience of the heart...

When we listened to the Church more than secular society, we had a much more stable home life and culture. It wasn't without its problems (life never is) but it was better than this basket we're in on such a stinky creek.

Marriage has undergone many changes because the traditional relationship between men and women has been dramatically altered. Women use to be be treated as property or worse for much of the Church’s history. This new reality is not going to change and the Church will not be able to reverse the course of the world.

The Church is unchanging in a changing world, it’s only a matter of time before complete separation occurs. Man is evolving, for better or worse. God will have to help us understand how to commune with him in the future if we are not destroyed before then. Adam and Eve “evolved” from the garden through knowledge of sin and so we must evolve our relationship as our understanding of God’s creation improves.

Man’s knowledge knows no limits so long as our existence moves forward. Even Christ said it would be much harder for those who come after the disciples and I think he understood well the impact time would have on his teachings.
