Many are called but few are chosen...now who said that?

So was Phebe a transsexual that was actually male but was referred to as female by Paul, such that s/he could hold the office of deacon?

"‘He’s showing me what Christianity would look like if I believed. Because I think like him, and even though I’m not sure I agree, it resonates.’ " ========================================== So the man is bending God to the the intellect of man. Serious error here.

The PCA, the church who's leadership he is supposed to be subject to does not allow for the ordination of women .

If he has a problem submitting to the authority of his denomination he needs to leave it .

Um...Remember the apostle's Paul's speech to all the philosophers in Athens as recorded in the book of Acts? (chapter 17)

18 He also had a debate with some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers. When he told them about Jesus and his resurrection, they said, “What’s this babbler trying to say with these strange ideas he’s picked up?” Others said, “He seems to be preaching about some foreign gods.”

19 Then they took him to the high council of the city.[d] “Come and tell us about this new teaching,” they said. 20 “You are saying some rather strange things, and we want to know what it’s all about.” 21 (It should be explained that all the Athenians as well as the foreigners in Athens seemed to spend all their time discussing the latest ideas.)

22 So Paul, standing before the council,[e] addressed them as follows: “Men of Athens, I notice that you are very religious in every way, 23 for as I was walking along I saw your many shrines. And one of your altars had this inscription on it: ‘To an Unknown God.’ This God, whom you worship without knowing, is the one I’m telling you about.

24 “He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples, 25 and human hands can’t serve his needs—for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need. 26 From one man[f] he created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and he determined their boundaries.

27 “His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us. 28 For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your[g] own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ 29 And since this is true, we shouldn’t think of God as an idol designed by craftsmen from gold or silver or stone.

30 “God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him. 31 For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead.”

32 When they heard Paul speak about the resurrection of the dead, some laughed in contempt, but others said, “We want to hear more about this later.” 33 That ended Paul’s discussion with them, 34 but some joined him and became believers.

It sounds like your denomination is not Biblically-based, then.

Glad to know that. By the way, be sure to tell your parishioners to not follow anything Paul agreed with.

I went to a couple of services when I was looking for a church a few years ago. I ended up at Times Square Church, which suited my needs better. But I do remember his sermon on what he called "litigating" for oneself constantly, always trying to make your case for yourself. He's not a repetitive preacher, really, but he kept saying, "The litigation! The litigation!" I still hear that when other people are talking to make some point about themselves, and occasionally hear it when I'm sorely tempted to do the same thing.

Someone has told me this is silly, but I was put off by a prayer (not by Keller but a member of the congregations) for the Iraqi people, with no mention of our troops. That was too political for me, in the wrong direction, and so I continued looking. I also can't agree with not ordaining women, a point of view I once held but I now have heard too many good women preachers.

Everywhere I go I hear people talking about Redeemer--on the bus, at meetings--and I know it is a powerful force for good in New York. My own church constantly prays for a New York City revivial. It just could be happening.

A good article. I didn't read anything that rang a false note, or a biased one unless it was possibly favorable.

You’re thinking of West 72nd Street? Maybe the Papaya King is what draws people to Blessed Sacrament.

I would really, really like to know what is wrong with Rick Warren. I live in Orange County but don’t go to his church, however I know enough to know that he is the real deal.

Why do you have to knock Rick Warren in order to build this pastor up? Christians should work together.

Three cheers for tentmakers.

That was Paul's stand-by job, he also waited tables, I believe. Hey, I did that and cleaned old ladies' condos. Whatever it takes! :o)

Whoa...I am in no way in his "class" other than we are both children of the living God through faith in Jesus Christ. Amen!
But thanks anyway. :o)

Friend of the Muslim anti-christ. Friend of islam. Book peddler, etc etc. Oh and he engages in televangist huckster please for money cause the church is “gonna go broke.”

http://www.aolnews.com/nation/article/pastor-rick-warren-gets-24-million-in-donations-after-urgent-plea/19300816

“LAKE FOREST, Calif. (Jan. 3) - Evangelical pastor Rick Warren’s plea for donations to fill a $900,000 deficit at his Southern California megachurch brought in $2.4 million, Warren announced to cheers during a sermon at the church on Saturday.”

“Warren said the amount raised after the appeal was posted online Wednesday included only money parishioners brought in person to Saddleback Church by New Year’s Eve. More was arriving by hand and by mail, he said.”

Why the defecit? Does he buy first class tickets to going skiing in Vail like Joel Osteen, his trophy wife and kids?

The idiot is incredibly naive about Islam:

Rick wants to work together with Muslims too.

My people fought them in 1571 AD because they were sick of Muslims attacking us (Christians) and taking us away as slaves. They have not changed and never will. Too many Christians died at the edge of their swords for not converting.

I didn’t “knock” Rick Warren. I said they were not in the same vein. I was being gracious.
