To: stfassisi; irishtenor I doubt you or anyone else who made certain comments actually read the article, dear IT.Its more about the damage done by Calvinisms horrible doctrine of total depravity. Do you believe in original sin?
Do you even know what total depravity means?

I have observed in the past the RM is (was? have there been many?) eager to protect cultists of all stripes from Christians.

When this figure first surfaced among Roman Catholic apologists, it started at 20,000 Protestant denominations, grew to 23,000 Protestant denominations, then to 25,000 Protestant denominations. More recently, that figure has been inflated to 28,000, to over 32,000. These days, many Roman Catholic apologists feel content simply to calculate a daily rate of growth (based on their previous adherence to the original benchmark figure of 20,000) that they can then use as a basis for projecting just how many Protestant denominations there were, or will be, in any given year. But just where does this figure originate? Made up, just like the number of uninsured.

It would be more fair to say that he is reactionary of the European type, not a leftist. A distinction without a difference when it comes to his anti-Americanism, anti-freedom outlook.

Those Romanists judges who would like to see abortion outlawed are stuck between a rock and a hard place.
While they no doubt believe abortion is wrong they are also strong believers in the theory of precedence and stare decisis. Think of it in terms of Roman Canon Law. Once a doctrine (law) is promulgated it can’t be overturned. The best they can do is nibble around the edges. The liberal activist judges are less constrained by precedence and are more likely to overturn law but of course they have no desire to overturn Roe v Wade.

As I said in another post Rome’s concern is about cutting out a niche for their Church in each State. That means finding points of agreement and compromise.

I don't equate the USCCB with "Rome," nor should youI thought the whole theory of the One, True Church was based on the apostolic succession of the bishops? How can I not equate the bishops with Rome?

ROFL!!! Suuuuuuure it does. From the anti-Catholic bigot POVPlease define "anti Catholic"
To: xone
Yep... like the doctrine of men :)
To: Judith Anne; wagglebee
Got a source for that? Because I don't believe it.Do you read the news? Ben Nelson became the rope in a tug of war between the USCCB and the Left.
I had a tiff with wagglebee over this some time ago and documented the USCCB position. I have neither the time nor inclination to look it up for you.

I have been on no anti-cath or anti-prot threads
This thread ,and any like it, however, violate the standards as sted when new relig mod took over a while back. We were told that no articles with intentionally provocative titles would stand, that they would just lead to foodfights. That’s still true

So you think changing the name of the thread would make it ok??
I do not really mind threads that call all of us to account for what we believe and why.. but I think there need be evenhandedness when deciding to lock threads..

Interesting that Pyro thinks the USCCB is at odds with “Catholic” teaching and wagglebee does not think so.

How about addressing Martin Luther’s 95 Theses? instead of yet another prolonged diatribe setting up straw men only to self-righteously knock them down.

Amen. I was thinking the same thing myself.
Not only is the article slanted but it is disingenuous about the issues of the Reformation.
