“If the Roman Catholic apologist wants instead to cite 8,196 idiosyncrasies within Protestantism, then he must be willing to compare that figure to at least 2,942 (perhaps upwards of 8,000 these days) idiosyncrasies within Roman Catholicism. In any case, he cannot compare the one ecclesial tradition of Roman Catholicism to 25,000, 8,196, or even twenty-one Protestant denominations; for Barrett places Roman Catholicism (as a single ecclesial tradition) on the same level as Protestantism (as a single ecclesial tradition).”
There is a small problem with this thesis.
It is “doctrinally” possible to have thousands of different denominations of Protestantism because it is a belief system without an established Catechism. Each Protestant denomination resonates to what it identifies as the “meaning” of Sacred Scripture and names it own sect or congregation such as the neighborhood “Four Square Christian Church.”
However, while there maybe break-away Catholic Groups, any denomination that does not hew to the Catholic Catechism is by definition Non-Catholic. Thus, to speak of a variety of “Catholic” denominations is simply disingenuous.
“Present-day Protestants are as much unwilling victims of Luthers ideas as we Catholics are. They cannot be attacked for supporting what they do not even understand.”

Difficult though it may be, the author proceeds with hubris and misunderstanding to attack his own straw man. He attacks his own Protestantism, not the real thing.
But I thought the point of the Immaculate Conception was that Christ would not be born to a sinner?
No, he doesn’t.
Here’s research of 25 years ago funded by the National Science Foundation that references no less than 154 Protestant denominations in the US alone.

Are you speaking for someone else, now?
If you want to grasp my point of post #90 ,it’s that original sin is paternal sin inherited, thus an infant fetus is not in a state of total depravity due to actual sin that freely committed by an act of individual will of a fetus.
This is another reason why Calvin is sickening when he says there are babies are in hell.
In the case of the Blessed Mother original sin was removed by a singular act of Grace by God so there is no original sin joining flesh with our perfect Lord Jesus, thus he was in a perfect vessel by the Grace of God
Yes. He has been speaking for me lo these many years. His apparent (but incorrect) belief about what Calvinism is, what Protestantism is, is a direct attack on my beliefs. Let his stick to what Catholicism is, and leave Protestantism to the Protestants. I have NEVER posted an anti-Catholic writing on this web, and have concidered Catholics to be brothers in Christ, but I am really not sure after such attacks.
***This is another reason why Calvin is sickening when he says there are babies are in hell.

DO YOU READ ANYTHING I WROTE TO YOU??? Calivn did NOT believe that children go to hell. He believed the OPPOSITE.
You Calvinists were just telling us to turn the other cheek. What’s the matter? Hmmm? When are you going to reproach your Calvinist brothers and sisters for their attacks on the Church? So far, I’ve only seen two of you do it, and the second one said it was too tiring to keep it up.
If it’s too much problem for you, then the option of staying off the open threads is always open.
2. Jesus, God in the form of a man, lived a sinless life, then was beaten and flayed, and crucified as a blood offering to cover the penalty for my sins and the sins of the rest of humanity, demonstrating Gods love for humanity, His infinite Holiness, and His Justice.
3. By faith, knowing my downcast state and the fact that as a sinful human I had no way to reach Gods perfect standard, I received Gods gift of salvation through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9) offered through His Sons death.
4. Because of what He has done for me, I want and try to live my life in a way that pleases Him.
Religions are man's vain struggle to reach God. If you don't have Jesus, then you have NOTHING. 2 Timothy 2:16
“”No, he does Not””
Wrong! We are not sin zombies with no free will waiting for God to zap us into being elected by Him without us accepting Him freely. We are not in a mindless state of depravity-we have a free will
Believe what you want, you have a free will. I happen to believe there is a strong possibility that Calvin is in hell.
I truly feel he was evil and it does not bother me to say it
Try reading the Bible sometime. I can find depravity all though it. Man is a sinner. You are a sinner, I am a sinner. If you are saved by the grace of God, as I am, you are STILL a sinner, but a saved one. No man is perfect, no man comes to God UNLESS he is called by God. Anyone who says anything else is confused, a fool, or a liar. A fool says in his heart there is no sin.
I will agree you have a free will... to sin, and you exercise that will every day.
What no man has is a will to turn to God. No man does that.
We agree,or as my friend petronski often says..Congratulation you agree with the Catholic Church
You take a man’s belief in God, based on the Bible, and call him evil. Shame on you for your unbelief.
And if you agree with that statement, you agree with Calvinism.
“”What no man has is a will to turn to God.””
Nonsense, than we are not made in the image and likeness of God- free to chose goodness
The key word is we agree upon is we can't reach perfection ,we can choose goodness over evil though
None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.
