Another grave misunderstanding by the Catholic Church...that the only time those excluded will plead and not receive mercy is after judgment. Esau sought repentence with tears, and could not find it. And those standing outside His door claiming great religious deeds, but whom He did not know.
Sounds like He is the One that decides, not the Catholic Church. John 6.
Bosch is one of the most challenging artists of all time. Since Jesus himself spoke of hell, it’s hard to dismiss it’s existence.
Truly frightening!!!
Esau is in hell 100%? You'll have to show me the verses.
Everybody is so white and skinny. And hair-free.
I guess like most Dutch/Flemish people he would have been around in his lifetime.

“The prominent Catholic Thomas Aquinas declared, “In order that nothing be wanting to the happiness of the blessed in heaven, a perfect view is granted to them of the tortures of the damned.”
Pop some corn, put your feet up, enjoy the show ....
Really? The rest of the Catholic crowd usually says, “Wait, We wrote the Bible, we decided what will be in the Bible, we get to interpret the Bible, we think you are a heretic, we are the True Club, therefore...you are wrong about those verses because Father Monsignor Bishop Saint Bigwind says that means ‘We are always right and those nasty Protesters are full of demons’”.
If this is a genuine discourse about the nature of election and predestination, let me know. But, check in with your seniors before embarking. They don’t usually approve of light being shown in the darkness.
Because its the ultimate in spiritual pornography for the self-righteously holy.....
In order that nothing be wanting to the happiness of the blessed in heaven, a perfect view is granted to them of the tortures of the damned.”
Getting to heaven may be possible for one who’s happiness is enhanced by viewing the torture of others, but I don’t think it’s something to bet on.
Isaiah 66:22-24
"As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before me," declares the LORD, "so will your name and descendants endure. From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all mankind will come and bow down before me," says the LORD. "And they will go out and look upon the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind."
And to further answer the question of "why?", the best answer is so that the action of God's perfect justice is visible to all creation, to His glory. We do not have to understand it further, nor even like it. But to deny it is to deny the authority of scripture.
This is a sobering thread. Thank you for posting it.
Speaking of porn, I bet ole Mr. Dutch/Flem got his jollies painting all those nice clean, white, skinny, hair-free nekkid people. Soft-porn necrophilia-fest disguised as religious art.
One word: dreadful
We’re in hell of another planet already (Aldous Huxley.)
If you want to talk "grave misunderstandings," how's this one: this is the opinion of one priest teaching as a private doctor. He speaks for himself, not for the Church as a whole. Authoritative teaching in the Catholic Church comes from the Pope and the bishops speaking in union with him. Period.
that the only time those excluded will plead and not receive mercy is after judgment.
I read the piece twice, and I don't see where he said anything like that.
I've heard more than one holy, orthodox priest preach "Don't plan on repenting on your deathbed ... you can't count on having that grace given to you."
