The Catholic Church teaches no such things.
Most of the Protty understanding comes DIRECTLY FROM RC'S IN OUR DAILY LIVES AND THEIR STATEMENTS ABOUT THEMSELVES AND ABOUT THE RC EDIFICE.
Pretending that this vast overwhelming majority of RC'S have nothing to do with "AUTHENTIC ROMANISM" is utter denial and horrific balderdash.
My best guess is that if one arbitrarily wipes that vast majority of RC's off the rolls, then we are talking about maybe 200-400 million or so RC's left and no longer this assumed billion or so faithful.
We often run into this parochial fantasy that RC's are somehow inherently more superhuman than individuals in other Christian groups. Balderdash. In all the sociological studies I've ever read, there's far less than a standard deviation's worth of difference between virtually all measures taken across the different Christian denominations vis a vis individual moral behaviors etc. The short of it, RC'S HAPPEN TO BE HUMAN, TOO.
Y'all persistently claim both sides of the fence. Reality doesn't work that way. Either the billion or so are faithful right down the line or 51% are or 30% are or 70% are or whatever percent are . . . or they are not.
When all the Prottys I know in addition to my own personal experience assert that 70-90% of the RC's we connect with in our daily lives are the sorts of 'Jack-RC's' as I described above--THAT'S OUR REALITY--PROVEN TO US IN THE COUNTLESS LIVES OF RC's WE DAILY TOUCH.
We get it DIRECTLY FROM THE RC'S IN OUR DAILY LIVES--NOT FROM MISCONSTRUING VATICAN OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS--which we are not that stupid about anyway.
Slippery mental gymnastics about these facts DOES NOT change the facts BEFORE GOD.
“The hazard is in blindness to the slippery slope involved with all the UNBIBLICAL Mary caricature heresies, blasphemies, idolatries.”
LOL, post 715 on que.
Such is your claim.
If somehow it is actually true, your criticism is not of Catholicism or the Catholic Church, but rather the people you see getting it so wrong.
I see the harpie strategy quickly went from
bait and switch to
reductio absurdum to
ad hominem ...and then degrades as usual to
gibberish and then
cartoon characters
like clockwork
Did you miss out on sociology 101?
LOL
If ο δε you are in the armed forces or a married to or parent or child of someone in the US armed forces fighting in the CZ, you don't make a donation.
I pinged you Quix, because in a round about way I think this addresses our different views on the question.
The Crusaders: good or bad?
Me carrying a firearm most of the time: good or bad?
Me drawing on a guy who wanted to fight with me while I was directing traffic around a DAV: good or bad, faithful or unfaithful?
Me arming myself to the teeth (but concealedly so) and escorting the Church sec;y to the bank eveyr week with the week's haul - usually over $20k, good or bad.
Ditto after I explained to our pastor that my mission is to protect the Church sec'y and other innocent folks and that doing so will, if, God forbid, I ever need to, will involved death or serious disability to any robber who threatens the sec'y or anyone else while I'm on duty: good or bad?
ME dividing my attention at ALL public worship between my prayers, etc. and being alert for guys like the fellow in Tennessee this weekend? Good or bad?
As Lewis says somehwere, back in the day, what they were wrong about was the existence of witches AND the nature of "due process". What they were right about was that witches should be suppressed being not only traitorous enemy agents, but agents of the very worst enemy. And they din't know until they'd messed up how the attempt to suppress witches ended up crunching justice as well.
I think it's easy to go too far in condemning those who condemned witches. I think ditto for crusaders.
I think when the bad guys are just around the corner only those of us well-steeped in prayer will keep our heads.
Gotta go. I hope I sort of impressionistically sketched A (not "THE" or "the RIGHT", just "a') take on the problem.
Here's a thought: why not enlighten your understanding of Catholicism by the study of Catholicism?
DEAR PROTTYS,
WOULD YOU PLEASE BE WILLING TO GUESSTIMATE as accurately as you can . . .
what percentage of RC’s in your personal network the last 25 years have been truly kosher faithful vs
been the kinds of Jack-RC’s I described above.
I hope we can get at least 10 Prottys to reply.
You are welcome to reply anonymously in FREEPMAIL, if you wish.
Bait and switch.
I routinely give a lot of grace to individuals and groups, MD.
I’m not . . . 100% dissing your point.
I don’t think it’s viable to carry your point as far as you seem intent on doing.
Studdock is the protagonist, or one of 'em, and HEngist is a scientist.
Studdock: But in a science like sociology ...
Hengist interrupts: There ARE no sciences like sociology.
Just sayin'
IF MOST PROTTYS
MOST OF THE TIME
FIND MOST RCS
AS I DESCRIBED THEM
THEN
THE RC EDIFICE
HAS A HORRIFIC PROBLEM THAT IS NOT AT ALL ACKNOWLEDGED AND CERTAINLY NOT EFFECTIVELY DEALT WITH.
RATIONALIZED PONTIFICATIONS DANCING AROUND THOSE BASIC FACTS ARE HORRIFIC HOGWASH.
Be sure to include in your reply an account of where in @#)(y@#!!! you get the nerve to make such a guesstimate, and where you get the notion that it's any of your business.Excuse the Price Pfister language.
Not even remotely.
NGR
I wonder if this is online somewhere. This is a perfect illustration of why we are the only Church that matters outside of the Orthodox sphere.
This exercise wouldn’t change or prove a dang thing of any merit to this dismal discussion at hand.
