“Is John Paul’s name on the mormon books of ‘those dead for whom mormon baptism has been performed so that they can have exaltation’?”

No idea. Our focus is on doing that for our ancestors so unless he has an Mormon relative it is unlikely, but eventually one will be done for him, as with every other person who dies outside the church.

“He was a good man, in mormonism’s eyes, but not worthy without mormon baptism.”

We leave it to God make the judgment on worthiness. From what I know of him, I see no reason to consider him unworthy. I think he was a man of great character and integrity and intelligence. It’s a shame he had to grow up indoctrinated in the teachings of men but he is in a place now where he will have opportunities to learn he didn’t have in his mortal life and I expect he will accept the restored gospel if he hasn’t already done so.

“John Paul would tell you that there is only ONE WAY for Salvation, and that as Faith in Jesus The Christ “

And we would say in reply ‘Yes, we agree with that.’

“would John Paul have asserted that a person placing their faith in Christ as Savior could not go to Heaven without Catholic baptism?”

He asserted that a person could not go to Heaven with Mormon baptism.
