I have a vivid imagination, and while some of the skits running through my mind are quite comical, I dare say they are probably incorrect. I assume you refer to some punishment or expulsion ritual, but please do explain...

I’m referring to excommunication — more specifically one accompanied a formal, in-your-face, want-the-whole-world-to-know-it ritual. I’m a non-Catholic, so I have no idea how often this is done anymore, if ever.
