That's your right. For me, I don't find the life of The Christ silly.

Gotcha, sorry if I put words in your mouth. This is the religion forum, so I’m not sure how affirmations of faith in Jesus Christ, and especially a complete treatise on His life and mission can be seen as such. This is an ongoing series as to the LDS belief in Christ, with the intent to lay out that faith for all to see, rather than let those who hate our faith define our faith. If anything, it’s the opposite of silly, it’s about time.

If you don’t want to read them, then you don’t have to.

Cheers.

I love the Saviour also, but the Christ taught by the LDS church - with all due respect to the kind and well meaning folk thereof - is a pale imitation and a theological heresy.

LDS is regarded by the USMC as a cult, and by every other major Protestant and Catholic group as well. The Christ who was and is and evermore shall be - His work on the Cross was in and of itself sufficient transubstantiation and propitiation for our sins - His work was not finished in the Garden when he “sweat great drops of blood” as is claimed by LDS teachings - else He could have stopped short of the Cross. Jesus Christ did not stop; not until He was drawing His last breath while on the Cross did He declare,
“It is Finished {completed, perfected} for not until then could He rightly do so.

Christ’s crucifixion was necessary, and ran parallel to the ancient Hebrew tradition of sacrificially clean and pure animals - lambs primarily - of which He was the prototype and the One truly unblemished Lamb of G_d.

It was His death on the cross, not His prayers in Gethsemane which accomplished the work of Salvation for all mankind - one of several key facts about which the Mormon church errs severely. In this, though they pray to Christ - they are not Christians.

BTW, before any care to “flame me” - I say these things out of love, and honesty and a true desire to see Mormons know the real Jesus of the real bible {not the Joseph Smith translation - which is invalidated by...Joseph Smith}

Lest any doubt my sincerity...my bride is LDS

D&C 19 13–20, Christ suffered for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent;

13 Wherefore, I command you to repent, and keep the commandments which you have received by the hand of my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., in my name;

14 And it is by my almighty power that you have received them;

15 Therefore I command you to repent—repent, lest I smite you by the rod of my mouth, and by my wrath, and by my anger, and your sufferings be sore—how sore you know not, how exquisite you know not, yea, how hard to bear you know not.

16 For behold, I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent;
17 But if they would not repent they must suffer even as I;

18 Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink—

19 Nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and finished my preparations unto the children of men.

20 Wherefore, I command you again to repent, lest I humble you with my almighty power; and that you confess your sins, lest you suffer these punishments of which I have spoken, of which in the smallest, yea, even in the least degree you have tasted at the time I withdrew my Spirit.

21 And I command you that you preach naught but repentance, and show not these things unto the world until it is wisdom in me.

22 For they cannot bear meat now, but milk they must receive; wherefore, they must not know these things, lest they perish.

23 Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me.

24 I am Jesus Christ; I came by the will of the Father, and I do his will.

You are mistaken about our beliefs. We hold the atonement near and dear to our hearts. Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and he also took upon Him our sins in the garden, a few hours before the cross. It was a twofold atonement, and neither part invalidates the other. So great was the load of the weight of the world, that he sweat blood from every pore, and an angel from God came to support him...but that didn't finish the work He has to do. He alone had to die for mankind upon the cross. He alone, cried out to the Father on the cross, for the Father had forsaken Him. He had to do it alone, no angle this time, no help from above. The cross was the culminating event of the atonement.

You are quite mistaken about our beliefs on the atonement. It is the single most important thing to ever happen in the history of mankind. This is why this series exists, to dispel such myths.

Look for an upcoming post on both the garden and the cross by Elder Talmage.

Hope this helps.

If you wish to argue "against" any other belief - in this case, LDS, stay on the "open" threads. Leave the "ecumenic" threads.

Prayer threads are closed to debate of any kind.

Devotional threads are closed to debate of any kind.

Caucus threads are closed to any poster who is not a member of the caucus. If it says “Catholic Caucus” and you are not Catholic, do not post to the thread. However, if the poster of the caucus welcomes you, I will not boot you from the thread.

Ecumenic threads in this trial run are closed to all “anti” arguments. Posters who try to tear down other’s beliefs – or use subterfuge to accomplish the same goal – are the disrupters on ecumenic threads and will be booted from the thread and/or suspended.

Open threads are a town square – posters may argue for or against beliefs of any kind. They may tear down other's beliefs. They may ridicule, similar to the Smoky Backroom with the exception that a poster must never “make it personal.” Reading minds and attributing motives are forms of “making it personal.” Thin-skinned posters will be booted from “open” threads because in the town square, they are the disrupters.
