So take it up a level and actually contribute to the discussion. Apparently the claim is that non-Catholics do not show Mary enough honor. That we misunderstand the part she plays in the religion. That we make false claims. Present an argument to convince us to do as you say we should. Knowing that we give weight to the word of God, use it to convince us of your church's, or your own position.

Yesterday you claimed that all the good debate had disappeared. well here's your chance to have some. If you want it

No, Dr. Eckleburg was not "making it personal" because she said you "apparently" did not read the article. If she had said you did not read it or did not comprehend it, that would be reading your mind and "making it personal."

I can and do intervene to keep posters from "making it personal" - there is nothing I can do to prevent posters from "taking it personally."

But even if she had "made it personal" - two wrongs would not make it right.

This is the quote that you are speaking of from DannyTN

“I agree and it’s a good point. But you know what?? Practically anything and everything in life can be allowed to hinder your relationship with God. NOTHING is harmless when viewed that way.

Did you throw out your intellect, or your pastors or group affiliations when you realized that you were putting them ahead of God? Probably not. Hopefully you put them into the correct perspective.

And so it is with Mary. We cannot say that Jesus being born of a virgin was a mistake. For God approved of it. We cannot say that recognizing Mary’s contribution is a mistake, for Gabriel announced that Mary would be honored. To be sure, that honor must be kept in the proper perspective. Likewise, our discernment and judging the motives and beliefs our our brothers, must be in the proper perspective as well.

It may be that our Catholic brothers go to far in honoring Mary. It’s also possible that we don’t honor her enough, because God did say that she would be honored.”

I’m gathering that Danny is not Catholic. Yet,
1. Danny never talked about “good debate” He talked about kindness between denominations
2. And you say...”Present an argument to convince us to do as you say we should. “

Are you talking to Danny or to the Catholics? Big question. I’m sure that if it’s to the Catholics, we’re not taking the bait but rather Thanking God for people like Danny.

I did read the whole thread before replying. If you think I am trolling, offering up bait, then by all means avoid my posts. I am not interested in flame wars. Once again, I am reduced to begging posters on these threads to engage in real discussion rather than just trolling and hurling invective. If you can't or don't want to present well thought out arguments for your position but want to look for reasons to be offended then that's your right but I really am not interested.

I am interested in a biblical perspective for your points of view. Lacking that, I'm willing to hear what else you've got, but the weight of God's word will take precedence.

Well, if you're not interested flame wars, why are you on the FR religion forum?

Could we all take a time out to pray IN AGREEMENT for Jim Robinson, FR's proprietor, who had a leg amputated today?

An interesting 1866 polemic by C.H. Spurgeon with the intent of performing theological judo on the Oxford Movement.

I didn't know Spurgeon was an Anglican.

Please, could we all take a time out to pray IN AGREEMENT for Jim Robinson, FR’s proprietor, who had a leg amputated today? He suffers from muscular dystrophy and he could certainly use a lot of uplifting prayer. It doesn’t matter if you’re Catholic, Protestant, or Orthodox, surely God will hear all your prayers.

Sandyeggo, you have such a good heart and it’s always been a blessing to FR. I’m just trying to hijack the thread in a positive helpful direction that FR really needs, instead of re-fighting the stupid European 100 Years War again.

I’m not asking you to jump through hoops for me. I’m saying that I am interested in theological discussion, and in fact, I’ve been saying it for a long time. If you present a logical argument I promise to listen. I will no longer however respond to any thread nannies or trolls looking to cause trouble in the debate, nor should you.

No it wouldn’t, because I didn’t edit it to say “100,000.”

You would know it to be inaccurate.

Just looking quickly through my own library, I came across Dr. Earle Cairns, “Christianity through the centuries.” In it he credits the St Bartholomew’s massacre with 20,000 murders (1981, pg 316.)

He then credits anti-Calvinism in France with forcing the mass exodus of 400,000+ French Calvinists.

I’m praying In Agreement!
May our Fearless Leader be well and have peace.

Thanks for bringing it up! Great idea!
