God decides who should be a saint and who shouldn't and how fast they become one -- not man.
If they meet the criteria, that means that the Holy Spirit agrees the person is worthy of becoming a saint. If they meet the criteria quickly, that means God wants the person to be declared a saint quickly for the benefit of the failthful. If it takes 500 years (like Joan of Arc), that means God thought it best to wait.
If God does not want the person to ever become a saint, there are plenty of pitfalls along the way during the process where he can derail it permanently -- a poorly written biography that doesn't prove the person lived a life of heroic virtue, lack of a first or second miracle, etc.
Man decides nothing. It's all up to God.
Good points! The Church does not make saints; it only acknowledges what God has already done.
What difference does it really make? You pray to a ‘saint’ and I’ll pray to Jesus. Just a thought.
Maybe the author had St. Maria Goretti confused with St. Gianna Molla, who was canonized by Pope John Paul II. The leftists can't stand that, because we should be prepared to sacrifice babies (in a good cause, of course).
That was very polite of you.
A saint is someone who made it to heaven. John PaulII lived a life according to Christ.JPII is in heaven. JPIIis a saint. That is what I BELIEVE.
And an incorrect one, but don't let me stop you.
Well, there is a time and a place (and a way) to discuss anything. It takes wisdom to discern when, where and how. :-)
In the biography of St. Gianna Molla there is no mention of rape. Unless there is someone JPII canonized that we don't know about, the author definitely mixed up the facts of two or more Saints. It leads me to conclude that it is why the author didn't include the name of the Saint.
No, I know St. Gianna wasn’t raped. I’m suggesting that because of the same nationality, and perhaps the same initials in opposite order, the author confused the two, simply remembering that Pope John Paul II canonized an Italian woman whose death was an affront to leftists.
Quite so. I have numerous “Ooops!” moments, myself.
Romans 8:34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
I do apologize. I didn't wake up this morning with meaning to "pick a fight" with anyone. I am sorry, please forgive me for my tone. I do like the debate but I don't want to attack.
In Christ, Wiley
I'm suggesting that you get to know me better. A good way to start is to visit my Profile page. Another good place is by reading my recent posts.

No apologies necessary, Wiley. You were forgiven long ago!
The requirements for canonization used to be more rigorous. It unfortunately was cheapened under the last pontiff. They should do some pruning.
Didn’t Hunter Thompson commit suicide a while back?
Yep. And I wasn’t a fan and thought he took the coward’s way out. Still, I’d love to see that phrase on bumper stickers next year. :-)
How about Hunter & Thompson ‘08?
