Brother, I am not trying to get in a mud slinging match. But I stand by what I have said. Don't you think it is odd, that there were no women pastors/priest until relatively recently?

Seems like Paul ranked prophetess above such categories.

But, I don't think I really have anything to add that would be that fruitful to bother you with.

Thanks for the kind replies.

Indeed an easy way to spot what's bad for the church is to look at innovations. Female priests are definitly a recent innovation.

Well... ever since 'churches' started blessing abominable unions I've been less and less suprised what wacky ways scripture can be misinterpreted.

It seems to me that St Paul took a lot of time writing many things only a portion of which were divinely inspired Scripture. Thus when he mentions that women should remain silent in church and follows 2 sentances latter with 'these things I write to you are the commandments of the Lord' I find it hard to beleive St Paul's scripture is anything but explicitly related to salvation (getting into the kingdom).

Not wishing to debate (one way or the other the Deaconess thing) your description sounds more like lay baptism to me, and that Deacon is a misnomer.

There is a good book call "Women Deacons?" available from Ignatius Press, I would bet the Theology is similar enough to make it an enjoyable read.

Also, I heard that the Deaconess thing was a growing problem amongst Orthodox jurisdictions with certain elements advocating them (I heard this from an Orthodox individual).

And finally, I went to an ELCA Synod meeting once (for work) and still have nightmares about the women with butch hairdoes in pants suits with pink Clerical shirts ugh!!

There are some looney toons out there. Just when I think I've seen the weirdest, something weirder is suggested.

There was a lady who said Christians should all have large families because it meant that one of us would have the "opportunity" to be the mother of the Antichrist, and thereby precipitate the end of the world ...

I can't think of anything fruitful to bother you with, in reply.

May God lead you in all your learnings and doings.

That is a new one on me.
