In the largest and most obvious break with Church teaching, the Cardinal refers to legal abortion as "positive" so far as it has "contributed to reducing and eliminating illegal abortions".

Stupidest.

Statement.

Ever.

Jesus didn't silence or stop Judas. I think the Pope will just ignore him. Three people in the world know who he is and they write for the Ny Times

On embryo research, the Cardinal presumes to have science on his side, as he suggests that after fertilization but prior to the joining of the two pronuclei (syngamy) destructive research on the embryo (which the Cardinal does not consider such) is not objectionable. He argues for leaving decisions around performing such research to the consciences of researchers.

Many of whom are atheists and agnostics with nothing but contempt for the Catholic teaching on the sanctity of human life. What makes him think that many of these researchers even have consciences? Welcome to Dr. Mengele's paradise. A world where embryo researchers can have at it, provided their "conscience" does not trouble them.

Surely the common sense approach is to err on the side of caution and to treat all stages of development as "human life", lest we inadvertantly destroy it?

Utterly incredible as most of his interview is, one is left to wonder not so much as to why he believes this stuff, but more as to how someone with these beliefs rises so high in the Catholic Church.

The "Judas" mystery of iniquity lives on still.

Funny how vocal people become when they retire. And even more, how much attentiaon the media gives to them...Aux. Bishop Gumbleton...6 Retired US Generals...Richard Clarke...Cardinal Martini...

They draw their last breath, and cry one 'final dissent' on the way out...Too bad for them the curtain has already closed. Asta la vista, babies.

We could also reduce or eliminate all illegal bank robberies by making bank robberies legal!

What a s____-for-brains! He should not merely have his red hat yanked--he needs to be excommunicated!
