I've noticed that the Church heirarchy is very good at restating Catholic orthodoxy in their speeches and official documents. They are quite good at it, consistent, and prolific.

But who are they doing it for? Theologians, journalists, church watchers? What's the point? To prove their own orthodoxy?

Is the average soul or man in the pew paying any attention? I doubt it. For them it is the parish priest and Catholic neighbor who defines the faith. So what these bishops need to do, instead of impressing the pope with their knowlege of the Catholic faith, is start getting their priests to hammer home the truth about Her teachings. In an age of e-mail and fax machines there should be a universal understanding and little confusion of Church doctrine. Bishops should be writing sermons to be read at every Sunday mass, getting copies to every priest, and taking reponsibility for his apostolic miossion. That they just go on and on about things in Rome that will never cure the heterodoxy that reigns at the average American parish is ludicrous.
