Wash Times: Archbishop Carey to serve U.S. parish
Julia Duin, 6/30/2005

The retired archbishop of Canterbury will spend this fall and all of next year as a resident priest at an Episcopal parish in Chevy Chase while working on a research project at the Library of Congress.

The Most Rev. George Carey will arrive Nov. 15 at All Saints' Episcopal Church and will be a member of the clergy team while researching religion and poverty at the library.

The Rev. Alfred Zadig, rector of All Saints', announced the news in church last Sunday at the close of the sermon.

"There were tears of joy," he said. "That sounds odd, but there was disbelief and, of course, [the reaction was] all good. No one knew this was even possible." ... (excerpted)

Traditional Anglican ping, continued in memory of its founder Arlin Adams.

FReepmail sionnsar if you want on or off this moderately high-volume ping list (typically 3-7 pings/day).

An *orthodox* voice? Was there something about George Carey that I missed somewhere along the line?

Why did Carey retire, because since his retirement hasn't he spoken out against the overwhelming homosexual influence in Episcopalian, and Canadian, and UK Anglican churches? Maybe I don't remember correctly, but I thought I've read articles here in which Carey has said far more against the homosexual lobby since his retirement than he ever did as Archbishop of Canterbury. If so, why didn't he stay in there?

Wow. Having heard Dr. Carey preach a couple of times, and having heard things second-hand from people who know him pretty well, I suspect that this parish is going to profit greatly from his presence.
