OMM, are you okay with everything ascribed to your Mormon faith in #39?
Just wondering.
Now your stretching... ;-)
Close. Nothing there I'm ashamed of.
So accordinging to you Mary is good enough to "come inside" on Christmas morning but the rest of the year she has to stand outside on the front porch...
One of the 10 commandments is to "Honor they mother..." do you think it pleases Jesus for YOU TO BE DISRESPECTFUL of His mother by leaving her outside?
*** However, Mary spoke of her soul, a person cannot do anything to make their soul pleasing to God, our souls are tainted with Original Sin, until our souls are cleansed by God's forgiveness it is impossible for them to magnify/glorify the Lord because they are intrinsicly displeasing to God.***
I'm sorry, but the argument doesn't hold water.
"My soul doth magnify..."
hearkens back to the Psalms...
Psalms 103:1
"My soul, praise the Lord, and all that is within me, praise His holy name."
*** If Mary is blessed among women, that has to mean that Mary is the most blessed of ALL women ever. Eve was not created in a state of sin, Eve was created free from sin; therefore, Mary's conception had to be as pure as Eve's creation.***
You're claiming that it "has to mean" but it doesn't! You are reasing that into the passage - it doesn't say that. She was blessed because she was the mother of the Lord, not because of any intrinsic sinlessness on her part.
Even Jesus does not agree with this overemphasis on Mary...
"And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it."
It seems Catholic theology requires Mary to be sinless to give birth to Christ.
What of Mary's mother?
Must she not ALSO be sinless to give birth to sinless Mary?
Jesus was saying that Mary obtained merit from being the handmaid, not for merely being a blood relation of His.
By this St. Alphonsus Maria Liguori means Mary said YES to becoming the Mother of Our Lord. She had free will she could have said "No"
Well, there we have it.
Gotta hand it to you, NYer. You know your Mormon shhhhhhtuff.
There's that Heavenly Mother, 'Wonk, not to mention a whole lot more of it.
Thank you for the quotes, they are very inspiring.
Saints rarely, if ever, wrote anything with the purpose to lead the Baptist out of their state of confusion. Their intended audience was Catholic/Orthodox. Now, for 2000 years Catholics correctly understood Mary's role in redemption as a Mother of God and not God. Nothing in these quotes says otherwise. In fact, it is perfectly legitimate to substitute "The Church" for "Mary" and observe your confusion, if sincerely held, dissolve.
Obviously they love her..
Please read my post #58.
***Jesus was saying that Mary obtained merit from being the handmaid, not for merely being a blood relation of His.***
My friend, I must disagree.
In light of Christ's teachings it is clear that he is redirecting the woman away from an unhealthy devotion to a fellow human being and to devotion to that which he continually directs people - doing the will of God.
We see the same thing in the following passage...
"While he was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him. But he replied to the man who told him, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?" And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers!
For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother."
I really have no interest in what the Mormons do or don't do. I am aware that Mormons use the King James Bible, just as many Christians do, what conclusions should we draw from that?
from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed
Luke 1:48 (KJV)
from now on all generations will call me blessed
Luke 1:48 (NIV)
You still conveniently avoid to address the fact that ALL of the common translations of the Bible contain this verse dealing with us referring to Mary as "blessed". So, do you follow this Biblical instruction, or do you confine your views about Mary to your anti-Catholicism?
The similarity...is legion... double intundra intended.
Of course. Why do you think we also have eternal families?
I find it interesting that both the rabid secularists and heretic Christians attack and mock Catholics for their veneration of Mary. It points to an insidious origin for both groups.
I knew all that stuff too!!! I just had a really hard time getting anyone to admit it. That Mother stuff is really "sacred".
I'm seeing some insidiousness in a couple of groups too. They have a certain similar female figure of differing names in common. Very very interesting.
I think it's for the same underlying reason that some Muslims have 72 virgins.
