I have a book of sermons given me by an old seminary professor, Dr. W. Arnett. It was his favorite preacher, a fellow named, George Truett. He was a famous SBC out of Texas...maybe preceded Criswell at that big church.
In any case, there are a few sermons in that book "A Quest for Souls" that I think are awesome. They're so "Truett" that I could never preach them.
I had a chance to hear Truett on a scratchy, old album a decade or so ago. He had a low key way of speaking, but then you got sucked into it. He was awesome.
Then there's the guy with speech impediment -- I don't even remember his name -- who was on one of Falwell's TV shows last year. I never watch Falwell on TV, though I respect him, but that day I heard this man. Powerful, powerful stuff.
It almost makes you think some have the gift of preaching.
