Isn't it amazing how quickly sensibility can fly out the window in such discussions!
Like Walter Martin used to say [my paraphrase] about the:
Can God create a rock too big for Him to life?
God can do anything consistent with His nature but He's not into NONSENSE.
"The basic doctrines of the faith are still required for one to be truly Christian.
The groups you mention all deny some central aspect of the faith."
Jews do not?
What "nonsense" did I posit?
THE BIBLE SAYS
!!!!!!!!!!THE SPIRIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WILL LEAD US into
ALL TRUTH.
Not the KJV; Not ink on a page; Not the law . . .
but THE SPIRIT.
The letter of the law kills but The Spirit brings LIBERTY
IS SOUND BIBLE, SOUND DOCTRINE AND SOUND CHRISTIANITY but rarely attended to in groups given to starchy, rigid, fossilized doctrines of men vs being Spirit led and
"My sheep know my voice" Christianity.
That was actually part of Bp. Williamson's homily the last time I heard him. :)

Yep, just figure out those Bible codes and it all becomes clear.
"The groups you mention all deny some central aspect of the faith."
In a strict sense Quix, all that deny the Dogmas of the Councils of the Faith "deny some central aspect of the faith", no?
Not codes, please. Every time I hear codes, I hear Louis Farrakhan spouting Numerology. Ugh.
Doc, I'm curious, in your view, what was the "last" Council of the Church whose Dogmatic Declarations are binding? (I think you know my view - all of them up to V2 are, although V2 avoided any dogmatic declarations.)
Quix is into Bible codes.
I'm so sorry. I will back away. Quietly. Sadly.
Doctrine is not unimportant. But if you insist on standing over there, because of doctrine, when we could at least pray together, I think THAT is a bad thing.
Why not set the biblical standard of spirit AND truth as your standard.
Because the "spirit" gets subsumed by the "truth" and we stay divided, even in prayer. There are many who are coming together to offer themselves to God, together, yet remain who they are, in their respective beliefs.
I choose to recognize that as the actions of the Holy Spirit, who desires that all be One.
AMEN! AMEN! AMEN!
***Doc, I'm curious, in your view, what was the "last" Council of the Church whose Dogmatic Declarations are binding?***
As a Proddy, council pronouncements are binding only so far as they truly express bibical truth.
WHAT YOU DESCRIBE
happens in EVERY denomination.
It hides under different labels. It dresses in starchier or less starchy dress.
It parades in different forms and customs.
But I'd wager that I could walk into one of yourservices and discover where it's hiding in your group in a matter of minutes.
It may be more vividly evident when it happens in SOME Charismatic groups but that doesn't mean it's MORE there than in your group.
Proud smugness over such a spiritual issue is not wise.
***Holy Spirit, who desires that all be One.***
One with Mormons, JWS and Unitarians?
A long, interactive homily, much offering up, some praying in tongues. It is a unique experience.
The last one I attended, about six months ago, was attended by over 200 people, on a Tuesday night.
Speaking only for myself, the teachings on scripture I have received at Charismatic meetings has deepened my love of the Eucharist.
Your experience is not unique. Many Catholics have deepened their spirituality through the Movement.
They found a home there because they were nominal, and found nourishment for their souls.
Don't be so scarce here. We need your input.
These aren't believers, narses.
***some praying in tongues***
Who interprets the tongues?
We can all acknowledge basic truths about those issues. WE can celebrate the basic truths.
We can even accept and celebrate someone's fairly unique individual as well as denominational distinctives AS THEY MAY BRING THE INDIVIDUAL CLOSER TO GOD in that individual's walk.
But your questions, sadly,
sound much more like the pharisee's questions trying to trip Jesus up than they do sound like someone seriously wanting to grow in walking in Christ's Spirit and to support and aid others in doing so, too.
You want to see whether Charismatics will heal on the Sabbath. You want to see whether the Charismatics will condemn the disciples for picking corn onthe Sabbath.
Jesus would have none of that.
And Spirit-led wisdom now, won't either.
