Well, I definitely think the nation is better off when most people answer yes to all of the questions. Does that count?
IR, you could stop right there and still be so right. God provides. He always has and always will. Why, He even provides for the sola scriptura crowd! And even if every Bible disappeared from the earth, His plan for us would still be written on our hearts, still be breathed into our souls by the Holy Spirit!
Oh. Thanks for the explanation. I think the "yes, but.." answer is fine. I go with the Luther opinion, but I certainly agree that your position is still a Biblical worldview.
Yes to all of them
I just look at those questions and shake my head at the notion that one in ten persons would actually answer yes to all of them. I guess it takes all types.
seems like it would be a short trip then.
Yes to all.
Roger that. As one of my Catholic friends put it, "It's not that we go out and get different ideas, it's that the Church has a position on all that the Bible contains."
Let me say this about the canon controversy: I do not take lightly the idea that content may have been added to or delleted from God's Word. However, the presence of those books has not saved Catholicism from people like John Kerry, Andrew Greeley and Cardinal Law, and their absence hasn't saved we Protestants from people like Gene Robinson and Fred Phelps. It is the itching ears that we are really in trouble from.
Ah well, that's easy. To me, the NT isn't part of the Bible.
This point, among other things, has caused me to question Catholic teaching according to Biblical Truth.
I never, ever believed that I would see the day where I would walk away from the Catholic Church. I believe that day is coming very soon.
Is this theology or mindlessness?
Good question.
#2 could be rephrased, "Is absolute moral truth found outside the Bible?"
#8 could be rephrased, "Are there inaccurate teachings in the Bible?"
One is speaking about boundaries, the other accuracy.
y,y,y,y,?,y,y,n
How can #9 be no?
The bible is accurate in its teachings?
Accurate as compared to what?
The only things I can think of that can be questioned relate to time(seven day creation for one) and aren't a question in my mind, other than my ability at comprehension. I don't question the accuracy, but mans ability at relating it to those who followed
It's interesting that you say that, because if anything, after deeper reading of Catholic doctrine and analysis of the Bible, it has made me STRONGER in my faith in the Church.
No, I comprehended just fine. My answer was related to the doctrine of sole scriptura, "the Bible alone" which is th idea that one can find all of the truths of Christianity in the Bible.
Come again?
Does the Lord deserve any credit for your accomplishments and success? Just wondering :)
Feel free to disprove the Resurrection at any time.
One could argue that Paul's attitude toward marriage was related to the specific situation of those to whom he wrote; not necessarily for all people and for all time. At the time he wrote Christians were undergoing persecution which was only going to get worse in the near term. Perhaps he was telling people that marriage was likely to bring heartache due to separation and/or death, and that it was better to avoid it at the time, but still, "better to marry than to burn". Just a thought.
OK, so here's a question I always want to (respectfully) ask my Jewish friends: Who and what was this Jesus, whom we Christians call the Christ, this man who claimed to be God?
I went to Catholic school all my life. In all that time, I graduated knowing stories of the Bible, I knew the Mass upside down, and I had memorized everything in the Baltimore Catechism.
The Catholic Church has never stressed verse memorization. I feel that is a big mistake and a disservice to the membership.
These are my impressions. Everyone must discern their faith on an individual basis.
