"The one at the Carmelite monastery here in San Diego is beautifully sung by the nuns behind the grille"

Ah! Nothing I like better than grilled nun!

;)

Where perversions are concerned, I think its much less a question of hating traditionalism or the novus ordo, and more a question of fidelity in general. In my experience, people (leftys and rightys,) who vehemently disagree with practically everything John Paul II says, all turn out like granola cereal: flaky, fruity and/or nutty.

I remember the first time the New Mass was celebrated at my parish. They turned the altar around and said the Mass in English. What a thrill! I remember hearing "Take and eat. This is My Body." In my own language. I felt like one of the apostles at the Last Supper.

However, several of our children prefer the Latin Mass and we occassionally attend one. I admit I find the Latin beautiful, but distracting. I will say the priest at the Latin Mass is always reverent while at my own parish there will sometimes be visiting priests who are less than reverent.

Here is an example of how the 62 missal was even being picked apart in terms of Rubrics on the eve of the liturgical "reforms"

And the majority of the parish liked it. Must have been that great pre-conciliar catechesis.
Did they personally prefer Mass facing the congregation? Seventy six percent said yes, twenty four percent said no. Since then we say all Masses facing the congregation.

"The fact is, the Novus Ordo has been approved by the Church."

The Church has also approved of altar-girls and interfaith exercises. One can question the advisability of these changes without denying the authority of the holy father to make these changes.

"I want you to have your Tridentine Rite so you'll leave the rest of us the hell alone!"

If interested laity had ready access to the traditional Latin Mass and Sacraments without being accused of a "schismatic mentality", I'm sure you would hear from us far less often. Perhaps you should join us in petitioning the bishops to lift all restrictions on the traditional Latin Mass.

For at least the last 15 years there have been hundreds, if not thousands of requests to Maida to grant permission for the Tridentine Mass.

Maida was wrong NOT to grant access to a legitimate rite of the Catholic Church. The pope authorized it, Maida should have complied.

Great reasoning. Woman priestesses here we come! Woo hoo!

The Traditional Mass is not a separate rite.

Another rather curious item in the article refers to "the emigration of seminarians....only one Ordinand...this year."

Anyone out there who can verify this?

Actually, Phillie is unhappy with the posters who look askance at schismatic Old Rite Masses, said by you-know-who...

You're right! This is what Maida is up against....
http://www.catholicrestoration.org/index.html

I never knew about "Independent Catholic" churches until someone told me about this school. I was assisting in CCD and was appalled at what they were teaching in 1st Grade (God is Great and not a single prayer). I decided to have my daughter do penmanship by copying Baltimore Catechism. I needed a copy so I went to the bookstore connected to this church. The school was packed full as was the seminary there. They had real nuns! The girls were in below the knee skirts and the boy had ties.

Later I went to a Latin mass at the church. It was also packed. They could have 12 masses on Sunday and every one of them would be full. That is North of Detroit. South of Detroit there is another very full "Independent" church. Or as the article states, it's just a hop to Windsor.

The Cardinal had to do something.

Take your pick - just remain respectful (as much it may hurt).

Most Catholics - as you - are not opposed to the indult or even the SSPX, they're quite sympathetic in fact.

There is a vocal bunch of alligator jawed name callers in here and elsewhere who have a pathological hatred for traditionalists, and they take every opportunity to bad-mouth and malign us.

I won't mention any names but everyone knows who they are. The holier-than-thou who types the word "schism" 10 times more than they do "Jesus".

"Did they personally prefer Mass facing the congregation? Seventy six percent said yes"

This same 76% now makes up the bulk of the 76+% who no longer come to Mass anymore.

They were more interested in feeling self-important than they were in worshipping God.
