If I were falsely accused I would be in jail. Hubbard has unlimited resources, the liberal elite and the Church at his disposal. Does Canon law exist to serve justice or to be a tool to manipulate situations?

Now, I see it.

DOn't ignore it. Just quit whining. Pray and actively live the faith. Ignore the AmChurch phonies. Not paying attention to them is the best revenge.

Uh, the two abuse charges are outside the statute of limitations, so no legal cases can be brought. So, if Hubbard is innocent of those charges, he wants to find some way to clear himself, though he likely never will, completely.

Does Canon law exist to serve justice or to be a tool to manipulate situations?

It is meant to serve justice. If filing false charges with little evidence can get a priest or bishop removed, you'd see this happening a lot more. But both the Church and civil judicial systems have built on some protections against false accusations.

"...Hubbard's removal for heterodoxy is one thing"

AN IMPOSSIBILITY. Just doesn't happen.

Catholics can petition until they're blue in the face, and the Vatican treats them like they don't exist.
The only bishops that I see resigning are quitting as a result of sexual misconduct, or other criminal charges.

Heterodoxy doesn't even warrant a shrug from the Vatican.

ABSOLUTELY NOT --- excuse the Irish woman shouting.

There is major action from all sorts of people going on right now. The Holy Father could not act in 1995. This is 2004, A priest is dead. And the entire American hierarchy is shifting - Archbishop Dolan, O'Malley, Donaghue, Cardinal Rigali.

I am interested in justice, not legal gymnastics. If a man roamed your area murdering 3 year old girls, would you care how he was stopped?

If two 3 year old girls were murdered 25 years ago, would you accuse someone you despised of their murders just to remove him from the scene?

If Hubbard is currently abusing young men, let someone come forward with credible evidence. He'd be toast.

What I see is system meant to serve justice, but corrupted by many who oppose truth. No one is suggesting false charges intentionally be brought against anyone, even a villain like Hubbard.

Hubbard has much power. He is no ordinary civilian. The charges he is facing are nothing compared to what he may face if he does not reform his diocese and stop spreading error. We all pray for him.

Oh my dear, there is as there has been a war in the Vatican. There is genuine hope to see Hubbard removed. Pray to Our Lady of Sorrows. There is great hope. Such a movement of bishops, priests, laity. The internet is making so much possible that was not possible in 1995.

Homosexual contact with teenage boys is evil, but leading many others to perdition is a greater sin. He may not have had "sex" with young men, but there is ample evidence he has corrupted his diocese and may have lead souls to destruction.

Very well said. Thank you. Mass is at 12:15. I must run off. A prayer for you, your calm -- good counsel in your words. Again, thank you.

Just quit whining.

OK. I'm taking a poll. Who agrees with Desdemona here that that is what I'm doing?

SOrry. Due to my current assignment, I'm a little sensitive to criticism/complaints right now.

This situation is sort of like the weather. You can't do anything about it.

I would not, but if there were someone leading others to sin, especially a bishop, then... whatever happens to make him stop snatching souls may very well be God's will.

If I believed that, I wouldn't bother to discus it.

False accusations of sexual abuse are God's will?

May you never be falsely accused of sexual abuse, john.

It will follow you for the rest of your life!

So that justifies falsely accusing him of having sex with minors? I just want to be clear on what means you will use to achieve an end you consider desireable.

Does not God allow all types of evil? He may not ordain it, but he allows suffering. Again, you keep making accusations the biggest cross in history. What about the immortal soul??????

Read my posts. I never said bringing false accusations is just. I said if accusations are brought against someone stealing souls, be they true or not, let them serve the purpose of eliminating a wicked bishop who steers others to hell.
