Sukkot Miracle In Netzer Hazani
18:21 Oct 12, '03 / 16 Tishrei 5764

Yoni and Mazal Tzen'ani and their four children were miraculously spared when a mortar shell scored a direct hit on their home in Gush Katif early Shabbat morning.

"We woke up at 4 AM to the tremendous boom of a mortar shell entering our house," Yoni Tzen'ani, of Netzer Hazani, told Arutz-7 this morning. "The whole house trembled. Thank G-d we are miraculously OK. The shell landed in the living room, near the front door, and caused much destruction; this is a house that we built with our own hands, stone by stone... It's the first time that a shell fell in a house in Netzer Hazani, although we have had many other big blows [the terrorist shooting murders of Rabbi Yitzchak Arama last December and Etty Fahima in Nov. 2001, and several near-misses]...

Tzen'ani said that army commanders have already visited, and they promised that they would deal strongly with [this threat]; I hope they will, but I don't see that anything is really happening. If a shell had exploded inside a house like this elsewhere in Israel, the army would have been all over the place, cleaning out the enemy area from where the shell was fired - but here, a shell hits a house, and everything continues as usual...

Asked what he would advise the army to do, Tzen'ani said, "Firstly, in the areas from Khan Yunis towards Netzer Hazani and N'vei Dekalim, they have to clear away the trees, growth, and buildings that hide the terrorists. The army knows exactly where the shells are coming from, but they haven't yet shaved these areas..."

Its a shame when a person has to look at the world around their home with a tactical view that rivals that of a company grade officer. The entry, explosive footprint, and shrapnel pattern of the shell is clearly visible in the photos.
