Randall Simon, when he was with Pittsburgh, knocked down one of the Usinger's Racing Sausages during a sausage race between the 6th and 7th innings up here in Milwaukee. Gonzo, who just broke up the no-no, is short for Gonzalez.

The Cubs finally break up the no-hitter. No runs, 1 hit, 1 left. After 4 1/2, it's the Cubs nothing, the Marlins nothing.

Re: Sausage-Whacker

Here in Milwaukee (land of beer and brats) the Brewers have a sausage race during the 7th inning stretch (kids in fiant foam sausages).

As they were passing th visiting teams dug out, some dolt took a swing with the bat and knocked over the sausage without injuring anyone. . .but the person in the suit turned out to be a really sweet girl, who gave a lot of interviews . . . and the name stuck.

Did anyone videotape Ramirez's long "foul ball" or more relevantly, the slo-mo replay of it? I thought it bounced off the foul pole, in which case it should have been a home run.

Would someone with TIVO or videotaping the game go back and check?

Looked close. But it was foul. Barely.

Just take a look at Pudge; he doesn't look like Mr. Universe material (though he is the best catcher playing the game this year, and arguably one of the best of all-time).

The second replay from a different angle showed it hit the upperdeck and bounced back. Just left of the foul/fair pole.

Besides if it had hit the pole your ears would still be ringing. He hit it a ton.

I had thought it was out but the replay clearly showed it hitting the upper deck to the left (foul side) of the pole.

Thanks, but I was pretty sure it bounced off something. I thought it either bounced off the foul pole or some other part of the stadium.

I take it you are relying on memory, not going back and re-watching the`replay.

In any event, thanks for another pair of eyes.
