Drug-Addict Shoplifter Kicked to Death by Staff
A 40-year-old drug addict who allegedly stole beer and dog food from an Amsterdam supermarket was chased from the store and was kicked to death by at least four staff.
Anna Roos was chased from the Dirk van der Broek store by employees and died later of internal bleeding and injuries sustained during a beating, according to a police statement.
Slightly-built Roos was knocked to the ground where she was kicked and punched by a group of people, including four young employees and an unknown number of bystanders, the statement said.
Police said they were questioning six people over the killing.
It was the second confrontation in three months in Amsterdam between alleged thieves and supermarket staff.
In August, two workers of the Albert Heijn supermarket chain chased a knife-wielding man who tried to hold up a store and wrestled him to the ground. He was also beaten by the employees.
The two were prosecuted for excessive violence and fined £1,200 by an Amsterdam judge.
Dutch Prince Bernhard, the father of Queen Beatrix, paid the fine because he thought the men were unfairly punished after doing a good deed.
The latest incident sparked angry reactions from local residents who accused Bernhard of promoting violence. In an official statement from the Royal House, Bernhard rejected the claim and said womans killing could not be compared with the earlier incident.

It's those damn wooden shoes.
I didn't laugh at that too hard. Really:)

This is just sad. I don't condone shoplifting or drug abuse, but the punishment here surely did not fit the crime.
There are a lot of Muslim immigrants in The Netherlands. I can't help but wonder who these supermarket employees are.

Once again the oppressed 'criminal' becomes the innocent victim.
The criminal here IS the victim.
Shoplifting is not a capital offense.
It was this time.

Hmmm. Think this was the thief's first heist? Wonder if he had stabbed any victims in the past. The dutch seem to be tolerant of drugs/druggies, crime/criminals, weapons, but at least they take a stand on vigilantism, damnit.
You wrestle an armed man to the ground you'd best be prepared to fight. He may have more weapons and he may be a skilled unarmed fighter.

Shoplifting is not a capital offense. I doubt they were trying to kill the shoplifter.
I do think that, even in Holland, the concept that the continuance of one's job depends on one's employer being profitable is beginning to dawn on people.
Shoplifters threaten the livelihood of retail employees, and they were protecting their jobs. If shoplifters everywhere had to face a realistic prospect of being beaten by the people they stole from crime would go down. There was no intent to kill, there was an intent to teach a lesson.

You can still keep your feet. The Dutch will just employ "foot control". As a small child your feet will be crushed (hobbled) and bound inside a small wooden shoe (this is actually not unlike what happened in some countries ages ago).

Over beer and dog food? These people need to get lives if they could get so wound up over something so trivial.

'Clogging' takes on a new meaning in the Netherlands! Yup. Just more evidence of a culture plunging itself down the toilet.

True, this is simply the result of societal decay in the netherlands. The criminal cares not that he steals and the shopkeeper cares not if he injures the criminal to stop them.
All they need to do is give up their kooky ideas on gov't socialism. You've got all the right pieces, but you're putting them together wrong. A person's ethics do not proceed from his political ideas; rather, a person's political ideas proceed from his ethics. The Netherlanders' kooky ideas on socialism are an effect, not a cause.
Socialism is in effect there because ethics are weak there, and ethics are weak there because the church is weak there. People don't see any negative consequences of poor ethical choices. Put them in a hard-freedom republic tomorrow, and they'll still kick shoplifters to death.

Isn't this the same kind of justification the Nazis used.
To: CurlyDave
On the scale of crime, shoplifting and drug use are extremely minor compared to murder. The only situation in which it is right for one man to kill another is self-defense. Unless this woman had a deadly weapon and was wielding it, her behavior does not justify her death.

Eventually, social liberalism catches up with them and they become mad as heck and aren't going to take it any more.
