In stark contrast to their official position on terrorism, a senior Palestinian official said Sunday that Palestinians are entitled to fight Israel "by all means," a seemingly implicit approval of the suicide bombings that have killed hundreds of people and derailed past peace initiatives.
Farouk Kaddoumi is representing the Palestinians at a weeklong series of meetings and summit of the Organization of Islamic Conference. Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat is prevented from leaving Ramallah by the Israeli military.
"Pursuing the armed struggle is a must, as it is the only solution in sight to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict," Kaddoumi, the de facto Palestinian foreign minister, told the Malaysian national news agency Bernama. "We must continue our struggle against the occupation. This is the only solution to our problem."
The Israeli government has often retaliated against suicide bombings by invading Palestinian territory, targeting senior militant leaders in rocket attacks and, recently, launching an air strike inside Syria at an alleged training camp for Palestinian militants.
The Palestinian Authority condemns suicide attacks after they occur, and Kaddoumi's comments appeared to be direct opposition to the official Palestinian position.
Last week, Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia spoke out against a suicide bomb attack on a restaurant at the port city of Haifa that killed 20 Israelis.
Kaddoumi, the head of the Palestine Liberation Organization's political department, said attempts by the Palestinians to free their homeland should not be equated to terrorism, as the United Nations Charter allows people under occupation fight for their freedom.
"There is a difference between terrorism and trying to liberate occupied lands," Kaddoumi was quoted as saying. "As long as our lands are occupied, why are we accused of terrorism. The U.N. Charter states that we should fight by all means."
Neither Qureia nor Arafat _ currently wrangling over appointments to a new emergency Cabinet _ will attend the OIC meetings in Malaysia, where members were expected to condemn Israel and affirm their support for the Palestinian cause.
Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, a staunch supporter of the Palestinians, was unable to persuade foreign ministers from the OIC last year to condemn suicide bombing as a form of terrorism. Opponents said it was the only way Palestinians could fight back against Israel's overwhelming military machine.
More than 2,400 Palestinians and 850 Israelis have been killed in the past three years. The most recent peace initiative, the U.S.-backed "road map," has stalled since violence again broke out months ago.
The Palestinian Authority is a terrorist regime. Even if Arafat leaves, we should not deal with any of them.
They are scum. Nothing is too bad for them.

Okay, it's time to put paid to this lie. I have read the entire U.N. Charter, all 111 Articles. It does not say anything like this anywhere. Of the 111 Articles, 110 are full of "peace and security, peace and security, peace and security."
Only Article 51 says:
Nothing in the present Charter shall impair the inherent right of individual or collective self-defence if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations, until the Security Council has taken measures necessary to maintain international peace and security. Measures taken by Members in the exercise of this right of self-defence shall be immediately reported to the Security Council and shall not in any way affect the authority and responsibility of the Security Council under the present Charter to take at any time such action as it deems necessary in order to maintain or restore international peace and security.
Now, it should be evident to anyone that as the Palestinians are NOT a member of the UN... but Israel IS, that this only authorizes Israel to react against attacks by Arab terrorists. And there is certainly not a word... not a WORD in the UN Charter about having authority to struggle against occupation.

No, there is another alternative -- negotiate for peace under a two state solution. This was available with the Oslo Agreement, the Clinton Camp David peace plan, the Road Map. All of them rejected by the Palestinians. Clearly, they just do not want peace, but rather Intifadah, the killing of Jews and the elimination of Israel.
The US does not view them as a terrorist regime.
Say hello to the Palestinian Liberation Organization office in DC if you ever drop in for a visit in the capital, or to the hundreds of millions we continue to give them.
They were always out in the open provided you can speak or read Arabic. What they say in Arabic (much like what you read in this article) is always filled with hate and destruction for Israel. What they say in English or French for world consumption is usually different and deceitful.

It is deliberate and willful blindness on the part of the U.S. government at the behest of the State Department. Somehow they think this will buy them support in the Arab world. It is a dangerous self deception to believe that.
G-d help us if Howard Dean is elected. His words at the last debate and those of the Syrian amabassador to the U.N. were almost identical.
