Just in case anyone on this thread hasn't seen the following :-)

"Insight just learned that Schwarzenegger also has appointed to the team Hoover Institution scholar Annelise Anderson, wife of conservative Hoover scholar Martin Anderson. Mrs. Anderson was an associate director of the Office of Management and Budget in the Reagan administration."

Only if Arnold is willing to back her up when she makes the difficult decisions, especially the pork barrel cuts, will she be effective

"Sounds like the state's citizen governor is off to a good start in picking talented people to advise him. Didn't some other former governor named Ronald Reagan, once denigrated as a "mere actor," develop a similar reputation and go on to accomplish great things?"

I'd say ! ...

They could have a forensic audit and find out a lot more than people realize. But they wont and you cant find out anything from a regular audit. Most people who audit government accounts always add their disclaimer and that is they say their audit came from the information supplied by the one they audited and anyone capable of stealing these big bucks surely wouldnt be caught when using only the figures they supply.
All government from the smallest hamlets to the Federal Government operates this way. There are millions or maybe billions lost every year they cant even find much less tell where it went. Why do you think all this politicians spend what they do to get elected?

I agree with you on Bush and hope you are correct on Arnold. The only thing that bothers me about Arnold is the Kennedy connection and the way they do business plus I am affraid one of Bushes lethal mistakes will be the Clinton holdovers and Arnold is surrounding himself with some loyal Democrats.

For Kalifornias sake I hope you are correct but over 64 years from my point of view government has only gotten worse not better when it comes to fraud and waste.
The bigger they are the harder it is to uncover.

Arduin will be as effective as her boss lets her be. In other words, with Engler and Jeb (I can't speak for Pataki), she was able to make cuts because she had the governor backing her up every step of the way (she was a deputy in Engler's admin, but her boss was similar to her).

Only if Arnold is willing to back her up when she makes the difficult decisions, especially the pork barrel cuts, will she be effective.

It would seem that we now have the confirmation of that prediction, NG. Donna Arduin has quit her job after only eleven months... after a smoke and mirrors budget from Arnold that increases spending at a faster pace than Gray Davis ever did (and with less reason to do so). Now Arnold appoints a BURTON staffer to replace Arduin.

FairOpinion, Southack, et al., you might want review the cheerleading you did on this thread and start reconsidering your groundless faith in Schwarzenegger. As time goes on, there will be more of this kind of news.

No, Arnold is not Bustamante; in terms of what he will actually accomplish and what it does to conservative causes, he may be worse.

Today's Mercury News on Arduin resignation:
The governor said conservatives should not fret about [Arduin's] departure: "No matter who is in there, I will call the shots. I decide which programs we cut. I will decide to which extent we will keep our discipline with spending. And I promise to the people of California I will not spend more money than the state takes in."

Oh goody! Another quote to save.

Of course, spending less than revenue is one thing, but PAYING less than spending plus debt service is quite another.

You watch. That weasel loads every word in advance.

Cowgirl you've got to be kidding. Schwarzenegger really said this?

I guess if you are Austrian "takes in" literally includes begging, borrowing and stealing.

This is just to precious. Please preserve this quote in our archives

Shows the difference between a business man and a lawyer. We need to outlaw lawyers in government.

Yep. I was speechless. Maybe its just part of his strategery p-)

>This is just too precious.

My thoughts exactly (along with unbelievable, incredible, and a few other choice descriptions).

Done! I think Carry_Okie is preserving this one as well. It currently rates in the top 10.
