these boston folks: team, fans, groundskeepers, all of them. they need to realize that getting the Yankees angry is not the way to beat them, it just makes them play harder. best to keep things calm and beat them in the game. After Pedro plunked Garcia the Yankees had no runs and just one hit in the next five innings. The Sox just couldn't manufacture three runs. Pedro put an end to the Yankee mischief with his "purpose pitch", don't ever discount that factor.
This kind of ruffian stuff brings a team together. Boston just might springboard as a unified club and beat the Yanks.

I agree with everything you wrote except the benching Nomar part. Yeah, he's in a slump alright. But you don't bench your best player in the middle of the playoffs. He can break out of it anytime -- he'll just have to play himself out of it. Plus, he's still making great plays in the field.

Sorry, I misread you post. ....I thought you said Nomar should be dropped from the order, not in the order.

spoke out against how Pedro behaved today. Pedro behaved like a tough competitor. His "behavior" shut down the Yankees for the rest of the game.
I sat at a bar in Hartsfield Airport during a flight delay yakking with a couple of young guys from the Dominican Republic who had just finished their minor league seasons and were heading home. They told me about the Leagues and the craziness back home in DR. Believe me, Pedro is used to throwing at batters, and Manny is used to being thrown at.
It sounded crazy, fun and scary. That's why the DR pumps out so many great ball players year after year.
Those boys don't mess around on the diamond at home, or in the Bigs. They play a great style of "Island" baseball.

Just like the NY Yankee Roger Clemens beaning of Mike Piazza and later throwing a jagged barrel bat at him. Plenty of jerks to go around.

Boston really sucks- - -especially Pedro Martinez. I just wanted them to lose. Now they can all burn in hell for all I care.

Unconfirmed:
Two Yankees to be charged with assault and battery in bullpen fracas. One likely Jeff Nelson who apparent started the incident after grounds crew worker waved towel. Karim Garcia injury due to landed punch.
All just heard from media member on boston sports radio.

Pedro martinez is the scumbag of the century You said it. Aiming at Garcia's head wasn't enough. He had to threaten the Yankee dugout and deck a 72 year-old. Real class act.

To: mikemc282002
Whose pressing the charges - the grounds keeper?
The Yankees attacked him becuase he waved a towel?? Weird.
To: oceanview
I saw lots of towels being waved in the stands at Fenway.

Boston Cops. The Sox brass are reviewing security tapes.

by the grounds crew workers?
To: mikemc282002
there is a thread running on this incident now.
if this series gets back to NY, the Boston players better not move outside their hotel rooms.
To: oceanview
What, you don't think the ground keepers can't get into the spirit of the game and wave one of those towels?
To: demlosers
in the opposing team's bullpen?
To: oceanview
If this series makes it back to NYC, the Bosox won't make it out of the Bronx alive.
To: oceanview
If so, it doesn't mean the Yankee players can just assault the guy.

Tim McCarver intimated tonight, but stated fully on an earlier ESPN radio interview I heard last year, that Pedro Martinez is one of the three best pitchers he'd ever played with, against or seen. Koufax, Seaver and Pedro.
He did say that by reputation Bob Feller would be on that level too - but that is rarefied air! Especially when you consider he CAUGHT Bob Gibson, Steve Carlton, Jim Kaat and Jim Bunning and many other great pitchers in his career. He puts Pedro up on that top level, and Clemens, Maddux, Ryan, Gibson, Gooden, Sutton, Saberhagen, Spahn, Marischal, Tiant, Jenkins, Drysdale, Palmer and others are on that second level.
The stats bear his observation out.
So, no, Pedro Martinez does not suck. He is not a punk, he was sending a message from the best pitcher ever to a team he may pitch against one more time. That's ballsy, smart and just feisty as hell.
