Pilot's WWII medals awarded 58 years late

World War II veteran Chauncey Rowan suffered through the hell of a Nazi prison for his country.

Rowan was injured, nearly killed, forced into solitary confinement and had to live on little more than powdered milk and Spam for one year.

I am glad to read about this hero.

On another note, anybody who is made to eat Spam for one year is also some kind of hero. I consider that cruel and unjust punishment. YECK!!!!

Rowan, 83, said that despite the hard parachute landing and the 63 dangerous combat
missions he flew, he didn't mind waiting for the honors.

A common sentiment expressed by fellows who are "the real deal".

Lt. Chauncey Rowan. 350th Fighter Squadron. P-47D 42-76280 LH-D "Jenny". Chauncey went down in this a/c due to flak damage on 21 May 1944 to become a POW.
