Alert Alert
The conservative website NewsMax www.newsmax.com places spybots on any visitor to it URL site.
I just installed my spybot software 10 days ago. As I travels to my favorite watering holes, suprise visiting newsmax website alarm bells indicated targetnet spybot was trying to load.
Every time I visited newsmax over the last 10 days newsmax tried to load the spybot targetnet during load up of newsmax URL.
If you are enraged by this spying let newsmax know.

What information are they tracking? It could be harmless.

All that happens when I go to NEWSMAX is a rejection of their cookie, what's the name of the file that is trying to load on your PC from NEWSMAX?

Don't believe it's Newsmax, - maybe some link you visit from their website.
No problem found using IE6 and both Spybot/Ad-Aware
To: CHICAGOFARMER
It might be a cookie trying to load from a popup add for spybot

My solution to pests is keep ActiveX and Javascript disabled. It also makes surfing a lot quicker.

Please tell me the downside of disabling Javascript.
(Mac OS 9.1 with Netscape 4.7)

Please tell me the downside of disabling Javascript. The major downside is there are sights where Javascript and ActiveX are necessary to properly navigate through it. Most of the ones I frequent that require either of those features I just place in another zone with them enabled so it's not much of a problem.

Allow me to remind you and others that new definitions updates from Spybot became available today, as well as from SpywareBlaster.
I hit NewsMax twice. Just got a popunder apiece. No cookies from targetnet, though I'm using the "Immunized" settings on both programs. Keeps things from loading at all.

With Internet Explorer you'd go to Internet Options where there's 4 security zones, each one can be set to turn cookies, or Javascript on or off. I have one zone set up with everything on so those sites that require them features are placed in it.
It looks like you're using Netscape 4.7, with that browser it's all or nothing, it doesn't have seperate security zones so if you need Javascript often it's a hassle to keep turning it on and off. I'm not sure if the newer Netscape or Mozilla versions offer more control the way IE does, 4.7 is an old one so most likely they do.

Thanks.

Don't know about spybots (my free bot buster doesn't keep a constant watch) but I've been getting quite a few firewall probe alerts while here at FR, especially when I come to the reply screen.
