Big East Schools' lawsuit against ACC thrown out
(Hartford-AP, Oct. 10, 2003 Updated 5:00 PM ) _ A Superior Court judge says several Big East schools can not sue the Atlantic Coast Conference in Connecticut court.
Judge Samuel Sferrazza threw out a lawsuit against the ACC today, leaving the University of Miami as the lone defendant.
Big East schools accuse Miami of conspiring to join the ACC, costing Connecticut and other Big East schools millions of dollars.
Sferrazza ruled that the ACC did not do enough business in Connecticut to warrant a lawsuit here.
Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal says the lawsuit against Miami will continue. He says the Big East schools will pursue their case against the ACC in another court.
Miami and Virginia Tech are set to join the ACC next year.
Yet another smackdown for Blumenthal. Can't imagine a more worthy recipient of the court's scorn.
