Great Article! Aside from the author's over admiration for John Podesta, he seems to understand the difference between the Progressive and Conservative movements within the two political parties

The Republican Party is a party of ideas (With exceptions) and the Democratic Party is a coalition party with many interest groups weaving the party together.

This project is doomed to fail because one new idea will draw complaints from one of the Democratic Party's constituency groups as the writer points out to Podesta with his example of the Teacher's Union or AARP.

Secondly, the Democratic Party is much more emotioned-based rather than thought based, therefore when thoughtful ideas are introduced some of the emotion must be removed. Also, if Posdesta's think tank is successful in creating ideas, many will be ideas that are coming from Conservative sides. Podesta's flirting with the flat tax is a perfectly example. Without raising taxes, which is a stale Democratic idea that is not successful, tell me how are you going to reform Social Security? There are not too many other options left except those proposed by Conservatives. They are late to the game.

Finally, the author points out that Conservatives formed these think tanks without fear of consequence at the ballot box. However, most Liberals obession is not about priciples, but rather power and they use the tax-payer dollar to buy votes to keep their constituencies happy. You can only do this by being in power and resorting back again to an old Democratic "idea" raising taxes

In the end I think this will end up being a replacement of the Clinton White House Communications office. It will generate faxes to insure everyone stays on message. It is a really encouraging article because it does illustrates the dire condition of the Democratic Party.

Many such left-leaning ventures have been tried over the years and have failed to wield much influence,

That's odd. I can recall several successful left-leaning ventures right off the top of my head with no trouble: the Bolshevek Revolution, the Fabian Socalists, the National Socialists or the Nazi Party, the overthrow of Cuba by Castro, the consolidation of global power by an elite few ie the United Nations.

Well, it's harder for us, because we believe in a lot more things.

It is harder for them because they are a coalition of special interest groups and left-wing wackos who have nothing in common other than their pure hatred for everything Republican.

'Less government. Lower taxes. Less welfare. And so on.'

Hey einstein, that's nine words!

johnny's trying to backward engineer a movement. Movements don't happen that way unless their top-down. Top-down won't work in a free society.

This remarkable article is significant for showing just exactly how clueless and out of touch the prima donnas of the liberals actually are.

To me, the following part of the article perfectly highlights the main problem of the Dems, even though I believe it was not the author's actual purpose here:

Also under discussion is a project to address long-term challenges facing public education, relying on academics who may have innovative solutions. ''I'm sure there are journals filled with that stuff, that test and analyze and explain it,'' Podesta said excitedly, ''but no one comes forward to put that into the policy arena."

It does not seem to occur to Mr. Podesta that perhaps, just maybe, there are TEACHERS out there who have daily contact with STUDENTS and PARENTS and the whole arena called EDUCATION.

No, "teachers" are not among those Mr. Podestra would ever grant a listening ear. One must be an "academic" writing "journal" articles and I guess, according to Mr. Podestra, have NO actual contact with students or parents. Just do the research away from all THAT.

Then, give your dim-wit research to the Dem Party leaders who will excitedly read it and think they have "learned " something about education.

Oh, and when there is the Dem National Convention, make sure on that night you haul a bunch of REAL people up on a stage, and try to convince the world: "See, here are the people we Dem leaders LISTEN TO ALL THE TIME. Just AVERAGE folks. Like Teachers!"

When, in fact, any average voter who IS a Dem, or HAS BEEN a Dem, knows -- that's a crock of sh*t.

Thus, Mr. Podestra draws an erroneous conclusion since he begins with an erroneous premise, which is that one must go to the published journals to find out what's going on in education. His bogus conclusion is as follows:

no one comes forward to put that into the policy arena.

Mr. Podestra, you get an F- from this teacher for your thinking here. Teachers come forward - but your party turns them away time and time and time and time again.

That's why some of us don't vote for you anymore.

(Another mystery solved! And, you didn't need a journal!)

PS Mr. Podestra, here's a journal article you sound like you could really sink your teeth into -- although here I am, an idiotic woman teacher, and lo and behold! I was able to accurately sum up this entire matter in my little title in brackets:

Mostly black schools lose white teachers [OR: ]

So far, all the RATS have for their think tank is hate filled rants against the president and his admin. I met a RAT today at Costco. He was buying several copies each of the Al Franken and Moore's books and claiming that these idiots have the truth. I was so appalled at the guy's ignorance, I could scarcely believe that he was serious, but he was.

Center for American Progress...

I just emailed these SOBs, after reading a hit piece they did on Condi Rice:

Thanks for tipping us off to what the spin will be from the foaming leftists when Condi goes before the 9/11 Commission.

You folks want to know who's responsible for 9/11? Take a look at the reports of the dead American civilians being dragged through the streets of Fallujah. This is an attempt to re-create Somalia. This is Bill Clinton's legacy...Usama correctly interpreted his hasty retreat from Somalia as weakness, and Clinton's weakening of the CIA's ability to collect human intelligence blinded us to what al-Qaeda was up to throughout the '90s.

I'm more concerned with preventing another 9/11, but since you crazed Bush-haters are more concerned with pointing fingers, point a big fat one at Bill Clinton.

dems are still searching for those beliefs.

They do have beliefs, the same ones that propelled Robespierre and Stalin....and are assured that their beliefs will acheive the same results.
