Best way for dims to begin to rehabilitate themselves is to cough out the lead hairballs (Clinton's, McAwful, etc.). You'd think they would wise up to the repeat performances of McAwful explaining away ignominious defeat.

Democrats are incapable of creating - only destroying, but they're very good at that. So good, in fact, that they'll pull down our whole nation in the process. They're well on their way to doing so already. Unfortunately, the Republicans are either unwilling or unable to stop them, regardless of how many elections we win. This California business proves the point. The Republicans won, but the Democrats won't let Arnold achieve anything at all. Indeed, by helping him, they would lend legitimacy to his administration, and that's the last thing they want to do. GWB is in the same boat. The Democrats only gain when California, or the entire nation, loses.

Paul Begala, who was a senior adviser in the Clinton White House and is now a CNN commentator, says talk of a new recall is "very risky" but his conversations with party activists and donors make it clear they "want that cycle of retaliation . . . to kick in now."The forehead speaks! If the California Demlibs make any retaliatory strike against Schwarzenegger, there will be further backlash against them, in the next election. The recall campaign and election was for real. It was legal, justiifed and the right action to take.

Notice how anyone connected with the Clinton Administration, also known as The Johnson Administration, leaves a trail of slime behind them. If there was ever a more corrupt government in the world, I would like to see it.

The kicker was Bob Mulholland, threatening a recall of Arnie in a hundred days. Where did they dig up that guy?

Even extreme liberals ought to be able to recognize that their unrestrained spending spree in the 1990s is a big reason for today's political and financial meltdown.NO!
It is not a "big" reason.
It is the main reason.
Then there's the frenzy of lame duck bill signing.
Driving licenses for illegals...

The simple, unvarnished truth is that the angriest, most pessimistic group of people in the country are the Dems...especially liberal Dems. And the more liberal, the more anger. Their hero, Howard Dean, is the angriest (and most ideological Kucinich excepted) candidate for prez. They should all look in the mirror and ask themselves where all this anger and unhappiness is coming from. Other than the fact that every one of their screwball ideas in the last forty years has been a miserable failure. Miserable I tell you. (Can't recall where I've heard that phrase.) Remember Dems high stress and anger can cause heart attacks and strokes. I'm only looking out for your best interests. (snicker, snicker)

Bring it on Dems...your sleazy tactics are backfiring all over the country. It lost you a seat in Minn when you turned a funeral into a "attack GOP" rally and should have lost you a seat in NJ with an illegal candidate switch (what's in the water in NJ?).

Yep, just like Clinton's last days when he signed stupid stuff, even by his standards, so the Dems would have "issues" when Bush reversed them.
Remember the "arsenic in the water" lies?

Great column. I'd forgotten how much I enjoy reading his stuff.
Let's hope more sober party leaders step in and direct the anger into more productive uses. Hence Willie Brown.

Matt Miller, a normally sensible liberal columnist who lives in California, calls the recall "an illegitimate power grab" Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe said all he was hearing from California was demands for Democrats to mount a new recall as soon as possible.
So.....the recall was an illegitimate power grab, and now they want to recall Arnold? I thought recalls were 'illegitimate power grabs'......Haven't the Democrats been against the whole concept of a recall?
They've got the logic capabilties of a toddler.
To: Paul Atreides
I don't think rats have a clue how tough A.S. is. Or what kind of single-minded determination he can bring to a task.
World-class body building is all about pain and who can endure more of it than anyone else. As a body builder, Arnie would workout through the most excruciating pain you can imagine, until he threw up -- everyday, twice a day. They can throw the kitchen sink at him and he won't quit.
To: Paul Atreides
Call me Polyanna if you must, but I think that the Big Guy has a mandate and a unique convergence of tools and circumstances, including his very special bully pulpit, that he can use to knock out these obstructionists.
The mandate is undeniable, as has been discussed broadly. The most votes ever received for governor, in the heaviest turnout for a gubernatorial election in decades.
The tools include California's initiative, referendum, and recall, available and very familiar here, and very clearly, tested under fire and fully functional.
The special circumstance - the bully pulpit - is Arnold's easy and effective access directly to the people, free of limitation and censorship by the liberal media. He will retain access to the same unfiltered media outlets that served him so well throughout the campaign. He just needs to use them effectively.
So with all of those resources, what should he do? First, of course, he needs to formulate his program and his budget, and they better be good. He has to keep his promises to cancel the car tax, and avoid any new taxes. He needs to avoid direct cuts in the classroom, as promised, but with the amount of money in the education budget, he should be able to find plenty of fat outside the classroom. He needs to be ruthless.
Then he needs to present his program to the legislature, and tell them that it, and nothing else, is their job until it is passed in its entirety. Then he needs to take the same message to the public, and let the legislators know that he will use every tool at his disposal to accomplish the people's business, including personal campaigning, district by district, with obstructionism as the issue. And that he will PERSONALLY fund any petition drives required to do it.
I suppose it's a fantasy, but I believe that he really wants to change things for the better.

My understanding (unverified, I think I heard it here) is that there have been 31 attempts at recall for the gov in CA, and this is the only successful one. I can't imagine another one being successful right away.
If the Dems try that, I expect they'll destroy what little credibility they have left.
