Lately in our area, we've had lots of bear sightings. Everyone is warned to carry pepper spray and bells to be used to scare off the animals if they get too close.

It's very important that hikers learn to check for bear sign, and that they be able to tell the difference between brown bear scat(poop) and grizzly bear scat.

Brown bear scat is smaller and may contain berries, and animal fur; grizzly bear scat will contain bells and smell like pepper spray.
