Not all people with Hispanic names are immigrants. Puerto Ricans are US Citizens. I looked at the PSP web site after reading your post - I was curious too - and some of the folks listed there (particularly the ones affiliated with the Latin Kings) are probably Puerto Rican and not from Central/Southern America - making them *US* (American), for better or for worse.

I guess I hadn't thought of that. I was just ammazed that in a state of 12 million or so, so many of the top 10 would be from one ethnic group.

Not all people with Hispanic names are immigrants. Especially in the SW USA, many are native born and aren't immigrants at all --- but when you look at states like New Mexico, those aren't the people who tend to join gangs, the gangs are coming in from Mexico and Central America.

I have honestly never encountered a "street" Puerto Rican in Charlotte. We have a variety of Hispanics on the streets (and in the trailer parks), but the Puerto Ricans here tend to be professional.
