So just be honest. Do you want unity or do you just want to call all the shots. Unity is not an end unto itself. (Germany in the 30's was unified around nazism.) The question is: Unify around what?
Unity is always the first desire of those in power. Always.

If a people can not unify around moral decency, and must even question its meaning, then there can be no unity, IMO.
