[history]
October 8, 2003 -- ONE of the whopping lies of our time is that journalists are simply innocent bystanders with no responsibility for the outcome of events. In fact, our own media may turn out to be the crucial variable in Iraq. They've already made a success of post-modern terrorism as surely as Colonel Tom Parker made Elvis a star.

But don't tell me you're reporting honestly, when you're only reporting the negative one-tenth of one per cent of what's happening, while playing up each terrorist attack. And doing it for the absolute basest of motives, partisan political advantage for the left.
I always laugh my butt off at the libs screaming that the right has this "relentless propaganda machine" while they are getting short shrift in the media. That must be some alternative universe they live in, or some really good stuff they are smoking.

Right. If I'm speaking with someone who sees no Left bias in the elite press, I'm certain they cannot think logically. If they see a Right bias in the elite press, I question their basic sanity.
Both are beyond civil discourse, and must be ignored.
The right is finally getting some incremental victories, chugging like a steamroller. But the Left runs the media, the Arts, education, the courts, the pop culture.
That steamroller has a long journey ahead.

Can someone offer a sane explanation for this? I'll try.
There is mainstream journalism (daily newspapers, etc) and advocacy journalism. (Village Voice, LA Weekly, gay newspapers, etc.)
Somewhere, sometime, the lines between the two have merged to where there is little distinction between what I read in the S.F. Chronicle (which claims to be fair and balanced) and the S.F. Bay Guardian (which wears its leftist advocacy on its sleeve).
Young journalists enter the profession wanting to 'change things' and often get swept away in their own emotions and ideals. They cease being reporters and become spokesmen. Reporting facts is boring.

The media form as decisive a strategic factor as our military. Its professed neutrality is a sham. Distorted reporting is at least as deadly as any bomb in our arsenal. This is certainly one of the better articles I've read on this topic.

They are playing the old big lie theory. When I was in Nam we used to play a game of jerk off the press when ever one of them showed up. The winner was the soldier who told the biggest piece of garbage and got the "journalist" to believe it.

This is an important article, Kattracks. I found it a short while ago, was going to post it, but did a search and found this thread. Thanks for posting it. It's excruciating to know the truth about the media, and yet to realize that the vast majority of the public is far too trusting of the media and easily fooled by most Leftist propaganda that passes for news.
Although this author doesn't come right out and accuse many in the media of being seditious, that's his underlying point. And he is absolutely right. Take this whole leak thing as one example: It's just a symptom of one of the worst media abuses, which is their waaaay over-reliance on anonymous sources. I can understand providing anonymity to a source whose life or career may literally be in danger. But the vast, vast majority of anonymous leaks are just a form of gamesmanship, nothing more.
The blatant nature of what the Los Angeles Times did to Arnold Schwarzenegger the last four days of the campaign here in California is something of a throwback to the heyday of Pulitzer and Hearst. Most in today's media are more subtle and deft in their practice of sedition.
