Study: Wrong impressions helped support Iraq war
The Akron Beacon Journal ^ | Thu, Oct. 02, 2003 | FRANK DAVIES

A majority of Americans have held at least one of three mistaken impressions about the U.S.-led war in Iraq, according to a new study released Thursday, and those misperceptions contributed to much of the popular support for the war.

The three common mistaken impressions are that:

Knight-Ridder liked this artical so much that they repeated it in Sunday's paper. Curious to learn whether or not they printed this dribble in any of their other newspapers, and how many times they will be repeating it until after the elections.

"23 percent for those who said they relied on PBS or National Public Radio."

Here's 23 percent of the problem!

There's clear evidence that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein worked closely with the Sept. 11 terrorists.

What's "clear"?

What's "close"

It's very deceptive spin, portraying Americans as ignorant dupes. But look at the words of the actual report. For example, only 22% saw a 9/11-Saddam connection. 35% said Saddam had a substantial connection with AQ, but not with 9/11. 30% said few contacts, 7% said none.

How is stating a fact giving comfort to our enemies? There have been no WMDs found. Scratching around in a garage and one 'vial' of botulism in a refrigerator do not constitute 25,000 liters of anthrax or 29,984 munitions to deliver said chemical weapons. Also there is the issue of 38,000 liters of botulim toxin. Sure am glad they found that whole 'vial' in that refrigerator. Now just 37,999 15/16 liters to go!!

Of course I had someone elsewhere point out that Kay said all this could be found in a space of a two car garage. I'm still waiting for an explanation how you fit close to 30,000 warheads or other 'munitions' capable of delivering WMDs in a two car garage

But I guess we can wait until they finish searching before we rush to judgement. Hey didn't I hear that same line before the war?

Flame away

In other words, 87% of Americans believe there is some connection with AQ.

Americans aren't so dumb.

The three common mistaken impressions are that: U.S. forces found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

They found 16,000 chemical warfare suits, orders to use chemical weapons and live Botulin cultures in a scientists refrigerator plus 12 hidded labs unknown to the UN. Other than that, I am uninformed.

There's clear evidence that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein worked closely with the Sept. 11 terrorists.

At least one US court has found this to be valid in a civil liability trial. Another case is pending using the same premis. Other than that I am uninformed. Did we forget to mention the terrorist training camp with airplanes, the hospitalized refugee from Afghanistan and the payroll by Hussein of suicide bombers? I'm willing to bet my country's security that some were Al Queda.

People in foreign countries generally either backed the U.S.-led war or were evenly split between supporting and opposing it.

Maybe we should clarify that and say the civilized world including New Europe...you know the ones that just got their freedom courtesy of the USA, supported us. 27 other countries supported us. The stuffy snotty French (who hated us in 1964 when I lived there as a militarty dependent when they kicked us out) still hate us, and the socialist Germans who are pandering to the East German remnants hate us. So I am an uninformed bumpkin because I don't listen to NPR and PBS.

During WWII Our First Offensive was the taking of Guadalcanal as part of "Operation WatchTower". It took six long months and many Marines, Soldiers, Sailors and Airmens lives. 7 Naval engagements, each side lost many combatant ships. If we had the same mentality today as these spoiled people of today have, we might have thrown in the Towel back then, letting Japan take over the Pacific and Our West Coast(They were already in American Territory in Alaska...Read Aleutian Islands)!!!! We'd be speaking German, Japanese, Italian instead of English!!!!
We Are Fighting a Global War On Terrorism!!!! The Iraqi Regime was a Terrorist Regime, We Eliminated it, End Of Story!!!! You might want to apologise for that, but this 27 year Veteran who recently returned From Afghanistan does not want to kiss the enemies *ss!!!! I want to kick our enemies *ss and send them to H*LL!!!!

A quick check of Google News shows that about the only places this fraudulent push study got any publicity was in some foreign left-wing papers, American left-wing web sites, and on the newspaper web sites of Knight-Ridder newspapers (which are all cookie-cutter and run from a centralized location).

This push study was debunked in another thread a day or so ago. Search for a thread entitled "We report, you get it wrong".

D2, you nailed it again, my FRiend, as always. Keep it up!

Today's results in CA show that there are sane people left in the world, so we need to keep on pushing and solidify a larger and larger base of sanity.

I believe we may be at a turning point if we can keep it up and have good people like you who have been through it all help us focus.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
