Maybe I'm really naive, but the fact that this operation existed does not concern me overly, IF Israeli intelligence was in on it. Little money supposedly passed hands (although I would want that to be confirmed to believe it). What concerns me a lot more are little nuggets of info embedded in the story that pieced together indicate a lot of incompetence, at best, and deliberate treason at worst in the Clinton administration.

an undercover sting that never resulted in prosecutions.

Why? What was uncovered in these stings that could have prevented 9-11?

Ellen's FBI handler in the late 1990s was Kenneth Williams, an agent who later became famous for writing a pre-Sept. 11 memo to FBI headquarters warning there were Arab pilots training at U.S. flight schools. The warning went unheeded.

That's one bit of info that should have tipped us off.

At the same time, Clinton and his negotiators were trying to reinvigorate stalled Mideast peace talks, an effort that culminated in the Wye Accords in October 1998.

I suspect that this is some of the reason info was withheld. Clinton ALWAYS cared more about personal legacy than he did his country, which I have yet to see evidence he ever cared about.

...the operation ended abruptly in early 1999 when he and Williams had a series of disagreements over the operation, disputes that began when Ellen angered the FBI by having an affair with a Chinese woman suspected of espionage.

Hmm. The Chinese again. Clinton and the Chinese. What does their part in Ellen's life have to do with 9-11 and Clinton's getting campaign money from them?

The Justice Department inspector general is investigating some allegations that came to light in Ellen's case, including that FBI agents in sensitive probes moonlighted at private companies that were using FBI assets or investigative subjects to assist their personal interests.

Hmm. What assets? What "personal interests"? How do they affect national security?

In 1994 ... the FBI Phoenix office... had become a hotbed of cases involving terrorism and intelligence because of a large, active Muslim population, the proximity to the U.S. southern border and a large concentration of aerospace companies.

Shouldn't we have known that we should be concentrating resources here? If we did, how did we use what we learned?

He testified that Williams provided him between $3,000 and $5,000 in the summer of 1998...

That's piddling money. Something else is going on here.

You posed some interesting questions - questions I'd like to see our press ask.

It will be interesting to see how hard DOJ goes after this.

It is rather weird to see this info resurfacing. This Ellen guy is obviously a first-class scumbag, as the best snitches often are. Yet the article is written in an apparent attempt to make Williams out to be the bad guy.

[Ellen] provided an account of the operation at a friend's closed immigration court proceeding.

BTW, that "friend" is the suspected Chinese spy, Joanna Xie, with whom he had the affair which supposedly caused his falling out with the FBI.
